Reviews Summary

Visitors love Thompson Park for its beautiful ocean views, abundant shells, and relaxing atmosphere, perfect for enjoying the scenery without strong currents. However, recent sand dune placement has obstructed the direct ocean view for some, and the small parking lot can fill quickly. The strong rip currents make swimming unsafe, with significant fines for violations.

"LOVE! Beautiful place for pictures! Lots of crabs and great shells. Amazing place to sit and watch the ocean without having to run through a lot of sand."

Christina Roland

"Previously, you could see the ocean from here, and it was beautiful. Since then, they had the gun some dredging and placed mountains of sand in front of the parking lot. It completely obstruct the view, but kids love sliding and rolling off it. Adults – not so much"

Bob Cassady

"The park is located on the side of the highway on our way home when we travel to Charleston near Mt Pleasant. I love the view of the water and beach along with dolphins swimming in the channel . It's always a great way to relax and unwind . There's adequate free parking and a few benches nearby to enjoy the views or an entire stretch of beach to sit and enjoy nature.
On today's visit, 4/30/25, I was shocked and disheartened to see the towering sand piles the no longer allow you to sit and enjoy the view of the water and dolphins. Literally all you could see was sand and more sand. Truly a sad day for a beautiful little park."
