Reviews Summary

Visitors generally find Fossil Park Sylvania to be a fun and unique free experience, especially for families. The opportunity to dig for and keep ancient fossils is a major draw. However, some visitors express disappointment with the size of the dig pit or difficulty finding fossils, suggesting that preparation and realistic expectations are key.

"Pretty cool experience. Wish you could take tools. Even though we saw people with hammers. Other than that it was a fun experience."

Joanna Alvizo

"Really neat free experience. There are piles of dirt brought in that you can dig through. You will end up covered in clay. Clean bathrooms. Bring a change of clothes for your kids."

Emily S

"Free fun for everyone... but gets a bit warm. If you come in summer, wear sunscreen and bring cold drinks. The park is very scenic, and offers a large group picnic area as well as a walking path, plus the main attraction: a quarry pit filled with clay, limestone, the occasional iron pyrite and loads of small marine fossils! I took pictures without people but the place usually has a few families here at a time. It's still easy to find plenty of space to let the kids dig, and the 6 shaded pavillions are a nice touch. Posters everywhere provide education about geology and fossil identification. Overall a great way to pass a couple hours!"
