What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Clinton Exchange Old Post Office is lauded for its impressive Neo-Classical exterior architecture and historical significance. However, interior access for casual visitors can be unpredictable and sometimes unwelcoming, leading some to recommend viewing it solely from the outside.
"The Clinton Exchange
From the outside very impressive building asked if I was allowed to go inside at the reception area certainly very impressive building reception staff professional polite helpful outstanding.
History of the building The Clinton Exchange was built in 1928 as a U.S. Post Office and Federal building. It is a prime example of the refined Neo-Classical architecture often used in the design of public buildings between1900-1940. It was originally designed to border the Erie Canal on its south side. Before construction was completed, however, the canal had been filled in and replaced by a boulevard. The only design change allowed was an entrance on Erie Boulevard. In 1985, the 170,000-square-foot building was converted to office space. With a focus on restoration rather than renovation, care was taken to preserve plaster ceilings, marble floors, staircases and columns."

"The place is appealing from the outside, but once I got inside, I was appalled. I was with a friend for a filming project and asked if we could sit in the lounge to warm up. Sadly, we were asked to leave (in a somewhat rude manner). We didn't understand because we were literally just sitting on the chairs by the doorway. It felt very rude and unwelcoming. If you're interested in seeing the building, do so from the outside, or just stay away. I'm disappointed."
