What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors appreciate the Hayden Flour Mill for its historical significance and striking architecture, especially its imposing presence off Mill Avenue. While the interior is inaccessible, the exterior offers great photo opportunities, particularly at night when lights illuminate the old machinery. The mill also serves as a hub for community events and is a starting point for local ghost tours, adding to its appeal.
"I’m a sucker for old historical buildings and the Hayden Flour Mill is no different. Sitting right in front of A Mountain it’s a staple right off of Mill Ave. The original mill was completed in 1874 local wheat growers sold their products to the mill and the flour was initially delivered on horseback. Unfortunately there was a fire in 1917 and the original mill was gone. It was rebuilt and completed in 1918. Unfortunately now it sits shut down, fenced off and in disarray. There are talks of redevelopment in the future,"
Janelle
"Awesome abandoned building. Sometimes at night the lights come on inside, and you can see all the decaying machinery. A really cool time capsule to a different time in history, before globalization, when each town was responsible for processing their own food for the people.
You can walk around the outside, but not inside. You can see inside through the metal grates.
It won't keep you busy for long, but it's worth a visit if you love urban decay and local history.
Cute squirrels nearby."

"One of my favorite historical places of Tempe! Even the cats there are friendly! I’d have to say it is most beautiful when it rains."
