Iโ€™m no stranger to sitting in the terlingua cemetery waiting for the Milky Way to be visible. This particular night I was testing out my day to night settings for this timelapse... and even tho it didnโ€™t come out exactly how I wanted it, the cloud cover and storms on the horizon made it a lot more dramatic than I originally expected it to be. #bigbendnationalpark

Reviews Summary

Visitors find Terlingua Cemetery to be a uniquely serene and historically rich site, offering a poignant glimpse into the lives of early miners and townsfolk. Its stark desert beauty and eclectic grave markers are frequently praised, especially during the vibrant Dia de los Muertos celebration. Some note the harshness of the desert environment and the need for preparedness.

"What could go wrong in a town mining mercury, right? Plenty of miners and victims of the flu epidemic of 1918 buried here along with a sundry of townsfolk from 1902 to the present. It was an interesting sight to see here in the harsh desert west of the Big Bend.
Another placard located here relates the story of the Villalba family and their interests and business in this area. He died in 1933 after watching the birth, heyday, and then slow decline of Terlingua."

Jeff Schmidt

"The uniqueness of Terlingua surrounds the entrance of Big Bend and is a must stop for anyone that decides to venture into these vast landscapes of beauty. I truly enjoyed the 30 or so minutes walking around the cemetery of Terlingua and taking photographs."

Frankie Hinds

"Those buried here include miners and families from 1900s/20the Century to current day.
Really eclectic. Each grave unique.
Next to the ghost town.
Stop and visit.
My favorite prayer from St. Gertrude for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory-

Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory, for sinners every where, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen."
