What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find Madison Buffalo Jump State Park to be a historically significant and visually impressive site, well worth the detour from the interstate. The hiking trails offer challenging climbs with rewarding panoramic views, though some caution is advised for those with mobility issues or concerns about wildlife. The interpretive displays are well-done and enhance the understanding of the park's ancient purpose.
"Well worth a stop. We did the Rim Trail to the Buffalo Loop Trail, which is roughly 2 miles total. Standing at the interpretive area, it looks like it'll take you a full day to get to the top of the rim. The full hike took us two hours at a slow pace. It's slightly challenging due to some steep inclines. I would describe myself as fit-ish; I don't hike regularly but I walk regularly. We had to stop several times to catch our breath, but it was very do-able. If you have bad knees or trouble with your balance, I wouldn't go past the interpretive area. There are several warnings about rattlesnakes, but we didn't see any on our trip. We came across part of a leg from a hoofed animal (deer? elk?). No telling how it got there, but I suppose it wouldn't be a bad idea to carry bear spray just in case. There's a very basic restroom (chemical toilet) available and a couple of picnic tables."

"It might not seem like anything special, but it is speciak. Sitting out on a prairie in a very wide valley with a rising cliff. Often dry and brown, this is a lesser known state park 7 miles off the interstate. It's living history, with an interpretive loop.ans rnants from the 14 tribes who ised this cliff to hunt buffalo. Slow down, and you will see amazing artifacts."

Nice hiking trails, and beautiful views from the top of the jump.
Highly recommended. If you're going by on I-90, it is well worth an hour or two and stop for the experience."
