Elk Knob State Park is located just a short bit outside of Boone, North Carolina. Only made it a mile up today, but we were around 5,100 feet. Luckily we had a nice view as we stopped for lunch. To reach the summit is around 2 miles. Some rugged terrain and a pretty good incline. Moderate to strenuous… an 8 out 10 for huffing and puffing.😂 #elkknobstatepark #hiking #nchiking #nchikingtrails #north...

Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise Elk Knob State Park for its stunning panoramic summit views and well-maintained trails, particularly the Summit Trail. The park is highlighted as an excellent spot for hiking and experiencing early fall foliage. Some note the trail's strenuous nature, but agree the views are well worth the effort.

"10 out 10 hike. Trail is maintained exceptionally well. 1.9 miles to summit with clear .25 mileage markers. Gradual incline with numerous switchbacks to allow for a moderate hike. It is a bit rocky in several spots on the trail but overall not a difficult hike. Since our hike was in the fall it was very pleasant. I could see it being somewhat difficult in the heat of summer. Beautiful views. Among the best in NC."

Tyler Vanderslice

"Beautiful fall colors, nice park to enjoy leaf peeping. Beware of the climb for the summit trail hike, 1.9 miles up a steep path. Hard on the knees. But the views are gorgeous. They have a small visitor center if you want to buy park souvenirs; they also have water fountains, restroom."

Priya R

"We hiked the 1.9 Mile roundtrip trail in August, the hike is moderate in difficulty. The team who worked on laying out the trail did a great job, with the rock steps and mulch, very beautiful. You will experience a heavy tree canopy and lots of untouched vegetation. The view at the top is incredible, and perfect for photos, you feel like you can touch the clouds."
