What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Tunnel View is universally praised as an unmissable, iconic stop offering breathtaking panoramic vistas of Yosemite Valley's most famous landmarks. Visitors rave about the dramatic reveal upon exiting the tunnel and the sheer beauty of El Capitan, Half Dome, and Bridalveil Fall. While parking can be challenging, the unforgettable scenery makes it a highlight for nearly everyone visiting Yosemite.
"This is a great place to stop on your way into Yosemite Valley. (I think that it may be required ;-) Great view from here! Be careful driving or walking around here as other drivers or walkers may be paying closer attention to the scenery than what is going on around them. If you have some extra time I would highly recommend taking the Pohono Trailhead / Artist Point Trail. The views are a bit better and it doesn't take long until you are away from the crowd and noise."
Curtis Lannom
"If you're driving in from Oakhurst, CA, this is the perfect stop to take in Yosemite’s beauty. the This view is incredible. It's an unforgettable sight before heading into the park."
Ray Lin
"This is such a lovely stop either on your way in or your way out of the park. There’s plenty of parking around, but it can quite often be full, so you may have to wait around a little to get a space. The video coming out of the tunnel looks like something out of a film. You can video to get the view of tunnel view itself, but the view going the other way (leaving the park) is also beautiful!"

The Iconic Reveal: Exiting the Wawona Tunnel
This iconic view showcases three of Yosemite's most famous landmarks: the massive granite monolith of El Capitan to the left, the elegant Bridalveil Fall to the right, and the distinctive Half Dome in the distance. The composition is so perfect that it has become one of the most photographed and recognized vistas in any national park. The accessibility from the road means that even those not undertaking strenuous hikes can witness this unparalleled natural grandeur.
Beyond the Main Viewpoint: Artist Point Trail
Taking the Artist Point Trail allows you to experience the grandeur of Yosemite Valley from a slightly different angle, often with fewer people around. This can be particularly appealing for photographers seeking a more solitary moment or for those who simply want to immerse themselves in the natural beauty without the constant buzz of crowds. The trail itself is part of the historic Pohono Trail, offering a glimpse into the park's past and its appeal to early artists and photographers.
Photography Tips for Tunnel View
Consider bringing a tripod, especially if you plan to shoot during low-light conditions or long exposures to smooth out the water in Bridalveil Fall. Be prepared for changing weather; fog can add an ethereal quality to the photos, while clear days offer sharp, defined landscapes. Many visitors also enjoy capturing the cinematic transition of driving out of the tunnel and seeing the valley reveal itself. Remember to be mindful of other visitors and drive and walk cautiously in the area, as many people are distracted by the scenery.
