What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Olivas Links Golf Course is generally well-regarded for its challenging layout, fast greens, and beautiful coastal scenery, making it a popular public course near Los Angeles. However, some visitors find the facilities basic and the rough can be punishing, leading to slower rounds on busy days.
"Las Olivas Links never disappoints. It has everything going for it especially the weather. A very well thought out course with reasonably well balanced degrees of difficulty for every hole. The holes all look easy at first until approach. Some of them are especially hard to navigate around the green. A great experience all around. Walkers and riders are all welcome."

"Don’t play on Saturdays. Over 5 hour round, no ranger/Marshall. Greens in decent shape"

"Pretty underwhelming. A lot of people hyped this placed up so maybe that’s why I was expecting more.
Course - the course was good! Good layout, challenging holes, and fast greens. It gets tougher in the back tho. Tee boxes could have been better tho.
Facilities - the pro shop was a container but people already told me that beforehand so it was okay. Restrooms could have been cleaner tho, and cubicles should have had locks.
Golf carts - worn down. We had to change carts because our first one was going so slow. Seats looked like it was slashed by wolverine or chewed by angry golfers.
I mean, it’s beautiful but for the price and the distance (from where I came from) it was not worth it, in my opinion."

The Olivas Links Golf Experience
The prevailing coastal breeze is a significant factor here, keeping the course cool in summer but adding an extra layer of strategy to your game. Be prepared for this element, as it can dramatically affect club selection and shot execution. While the course itself is generally in good shape, some visitors note that the rough can be quite challenging and thick, making it easy to lose a ball and potentially leading to foxtails in your socks during searches.
When planning your visit, consider that while the course is a draw, the facilities might be more basic than expected. The pro shop is a container, and some reviewers have mentioned that restrooms could use improvement. Golf carts have also been noted as being worn down. Despite these minor drawbacks, the overall consensus is that Olivas Links provides a fun and challenging round of golf with beautiful scenery, making it a worthwhile destination for many.
Navigating the Course and Etiquette
Golf etiquette is crucial for ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for everyone. Reviewers have pointed out that not all golfers fix their ball marks on the greens, which can damage the putting surface. Practicing good course care, such as repairing divots and ball marks, is essential for maintaining the quality of the course for future players.
Regarding the pace of play, it's advisable to avoid Saturdays if you prefer a quicker round. Some visitors have reported rounds exceeding five hours on these busy days, often without a ranger present to help manage the flow. Weekday afternoons or twilight rounds tend to offer a more relaxed pace.
