"Such a beautiful hike. I would say that it would be 78 on the difficulty scale. Slightly above moderate but nothing to be discouraged about. It takes about 30 minutes to reach the top at a steady rate. The payout is incredible. Would give it a 91 on the beauty scale. There are a few pillboxes to explore on the way up and each one is unique in its own way."

"I visited this hiking spot today, and it was great! Parking is super easy—you just park on Kaukama street along the side of the road. I had no issues, but since it’s a quiet street, I’d recommend not leaving valuables in your car, just to be safe.
The hike itself starts right after you park, and you’re basically climbing up. It’s an easy hike, but wearing good shoes will make it even easier. Once you reach the top, the view is absolutely worth it! Perfect spot for some great photos.
If you’re looking for a short, easy hike with a stunning view, this is definitely one to check out!"

"There’s no shade coverage on this hike so make sure you stay hydrated, even when it’s cloudy. It’s a great place to catch a sunset and it’s such a beautiful view from the top.
ALWAYS REMEMBER to respect the island (‘aina) and leave it cleaner than you found it!! And please respect the locals and support local businesses ❤️"

The History of the Pillboxes
These concrete bunkers stand as silent witnesses to a different era. While their original purpose was military, today they are a popular landmark for hikers seeking both a physical challenge and a connection to the island's history. The weathered appearance of the pillboxes, combined with the vibrant Hawaiian scenery, creates a compelling visual narrative.
Navigating the Trail and Safety
Safety is paramount, especially given the steep drop-offs near the summit. Hikers are advised to stay on the marked trail and exercise caution. There is very little shade along the entire route, making hydration crucial. Bringing ample water is essential, even on overcast days, to prevent dehydration. The trail is best enjoyed during daylight hours, though many opt for a sunset hike, which requires careful navigation during dusk.
Experiencing Oahu's West Side
Combining the hike with other west side attractions is highly recommended. Visitors can explore nearby beaches, enjoy local eateries, or simply soak in the serene beauty of the Waianae coast. Experiencing the west side provides a deeper appreciation for Oahu's diverse environments and communities, offering a more authentic Hawaiian experience away from the typical tourist hubs.
