What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Travelers consistently praise the West Maui Loop for its breathtaking coastal scenery and the adventurous drive along Kahekili Highway. The Ohai Trail is highlighted as an accessible and beautiful short hike. Some find the drive challenging and recommend specific routes for a more comfortable experience.
"Easy “hike” (more like a walk) with beautiful, breathtaking views! Strava clocked us at 1.3 miles with only 200ft elevation gain. We walked the trail where the coastal views were at the end."
Haylee Hurley
"Great little spot for our family selfie. Short sidewalk path up to a view is all we do. There's a longer dirt trail that likely leads to the beach below."
Brian Vieth
"This place is incredible. But, first let’s talk about the drive there. I came up from Kahului. From that direction, it is a narrow, yet well paved/maintained, winding country road with some single lane tracks and steep segments. If you driven single track roads in the UK, you are well prepared. The day I drove it in a rented SUV was good weather and the few other cars I met were all cooperative and courteous. Think low and slow. It’s a 10 mile drive creeping along. That being said, I don’t think I’ll choose to go that way again. Coming up from Kapalua is much easier… it would be longer time and distance wise but the drive is less nerve wracking and it’s a multi lane state highway all the way. Go that way! (You’re on vacation after all) I will definitely go to the Ohai trail every time I’m in Maui now. It’s my new favorite on the island. Stop in Lahaina and have ice cream at Island Cream on your way there or back. Enjoy this amazing coastal hiking trail. Take advantage of the incredible photo ops on the trail. Bring water and maybe even a picnic in your backpack. Don’t leave anything in your car and take all possessions with you. It does have a good paved parking lot. I didn’t even have to use my hiking poles. It was such a great, easy, scenic trail."
