The friendly staff and special events like scavenger hunts and family game days are frequently highlighted as positive aspects. While some wish for a small cafe, the overall sentiment is that it's a well-maintained, interesting, and worthwhile visit for anyone interested in regional history.
"It was well done. The main lodge is very nicely decorated and easy to navigate. They have some nice displays of frontier life. There are five or six other buildings with full sized horses (plastic but nicely painted) pulling plows and other farm machinery. Then there are old buildings moved to the site and restored. There is a playground. Bring a picnic for a nice day out."

"You can tell a lot of time and effort has been put into this museum to make it a great experience for all ages. Multiple buildings to explore, as well as outside areas. Great place to take children, and adults alike, to learn history of the area and what it was like living and working in the 1800s. Friendly and knowledgeable employees/volunteers. Impressive displays with period photography and items, to go along with explanations of it all. Check calendars of events for special things going on, including scavenger hunts and speakers. Great gift shop as well."
