What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Wine Valley Golf Club is praised for its beautiful, challenging course with unique turf and stunning views. However, the high green fees and limited clubhouse amenities are recurring concerns for some visitors, who feel the value doesn't always match the price.
"Beautiful course with a fun but challenging layout. The greens were receptive but fast. There was a nice practice area. Very friendly staff. It was a little expensive for non residents. I would have expected a nicer club house for the cost. Limited kitchen. Not the best place to celebrate the 19th hole."

"Played a round here on a recent trip to Walla Walla. Golf cart included spare tees and bottled water. Range balls were included with the green fee which is a nice addition, but I had to be informed of this by the guys I was paired with. Would also have liked to be informed by the pro shop about no go areas of the course instead of learning the had way by having the cart locked. Disappointing that there was not a single ball washer on the course - at the very least one half way through each 9. Overall a good experience and great course to play."

"People talk about how nice this course is. Well it's not 200 dollars a person nice. Drove 6hrs to get there and was not worth the price. Guess I can cross it off my bucket list of courses to play. But will not go out of my way to go back."

The Dan Hixson Design Philosophy
One of the standout features of the design is the emphasis on strategic bunkering and undulating greens. While the fairways are wide, the placement of hazards and the contours of the greens demand thoughtful shot-making. This approach ensures that golfers of all skill levels can enjoy the course, while still offering a significant test for the more accomplished player. The course truly feels like it belongs to the Eastern Washington landscape.
Community members often praise the course's unique character and the feeling of playing on a grand scale. The design encourages golfers to think about their approach to each hole, making for a memorable and engaging round. The course's ability to feel both open and strategically demanding is a testament to Hixson's design prowess.
Playing Conditions and Course Maintenance
However, some visitors have noted a lack of ball washers on the course, which can be an inconvenience. Additionally, a few reviews have mentioned that sand traps were filled with firm, hard-packed clay rather than sand, which can affect play. Despite these minor points, the overall condition of the course, including the practice facilities, is generally well-regarded.
Travelers often recommend morning tee times to avoid the intense afternoon heat common in Walla Walla during the summer months. This advice is crucial for ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable round of golf. The course's ability to maintain good conditions despite the climate is a testament to the groundskeeping team's efforts.
