"Honestly, we stumbled, almost literally, upon the Pershing statue and remarkably detailed and compelling sculpture -mural depicting heartwarming as well as harrowing events evocative of a 'common' U.S. soldier's experience during World War I. It was dusk , which only enhanced the intimacy of the moment with the lonesome artwork. I think it's fitting that this memorial is just off the beaten path as World War I slips further back in the mind of the collective national memory."
