Small town day trip 30 min radius
Hello! Student here! wanting to spend a couple hours or a day in a small town or visit some places within 30 minutes of IC. It would be nice to have a good sit down lunch and do some shopping in a downtown and visit local parks or something. Not cedar rapids though haha. Thanks

What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum for its well-presented and balanced portrayal of Hoover's life, particularly highlighting his extensive humanitarian work and the significant role of his wife, Lou. The beautiful grounds and restored childhood home are also frequently mentioned as enjoyable aspects of the visit. While smaller than some other presidential libraries, its depth and thoughtful exhibits make it a highly recommended historical site.
"This is my favorite Iowa historic site. A great tribute to Hoover. Interesting, kid friendly library exhibits and beautiful grounds, complete with Hoover's tiny childhood home and restored neighborhood. A great family daytime trip, especially in the fall."
Glenn Schillinger
"Great visit to this excellent museum, though smaller than newer Presidential libraries, it is well done and super interesting, great, well presented story of Hoover and his spouse, and the era in which they lived. Especially enjoyed the exhibits on his work overseas (maybe our most experienced President as regards a wide range of overseas real life non-political experiences?) and loved the recreated Waldorf Astoria suite and associated artifacts from his post presidential years. Also learned the key role Lou Hoover played e.g. in creation of the Girl Scout cookie program. Do visit this museum and library if you are in the area!"

"Very well done, smaller presidential museum. There is a small film to watch, then a mix of visual displays with very good signage. The museum tells a balanced, in depth story of his life from birth in a tiny home thru his death in the early 60’s. Hoover’s rise from being orphaned at an early age, being raised by his relatives to college graduation and economic success in mining, then government service and his one term Presidency. Hoover seemed to be a very talented individual, a victim of his times, and perhaps too humble for a top politician. Gained an appreciation for his knowledge and accomplishments. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Good on site parking, no restaurant on site."
