Historic Jamestowne, Virginia. Zae’s birthday trip started with an amazing (and cold) time exploring Historic Jamestowne (Reconstruction of the first English settlement!) It was incredible knowing we walked where John Smith and Pocahontas and the first settlers were. We learned so much, like how Pocahontas was actually captured and help captive for a year before converting to Christianity and leav...

Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise Historic Jamestowne for its educational value and immersive living history experience. The reconstructed fort, ships, and village, along with knowledgeable interpreters, bring 17th-century Virginia to life. While the outdoor nature requires weather preparedness, the engaging exhibits and archaeological insights make it a highly recommended destination for all ages.

"It's always a great experience when visiting the Jamestown Settlement. So much history and education in one spot. The museum is an awesome building that is beautifully organized. Wonderful viewing and walk in exhibits. Great for a visit any day. While we were there, the heat index was over 100 so you could learn something while staying cool. The education continues as you walk outside through James Port to the dock and then returning through the Paspahegh town. The actors are all amazingly nice and approachable with in depth knowledge of all things Jamestown. The ships are always fun. The shop and cafe inside have a little bit of everything and everyone there was very personable. We really enjoyed the trip."

Joel Fletcher

"I loved the weekend visit. While we got there around noon, we stopped by their cafeteria first for a light meal before making our way to the different museum exhibits, then outside for the sights and demonstrations. It was a beautiful day too. They had locals with tables displaying honey prominently. There was a hive too! We got to see a musket demonstration while discussing the results of bows and arrow vs guns between the locals and colonists. They had two ships to board and explore right on the water! It was a wonderful visit, that concluded in the gift shop, where I got some honey for home. It was worth the 3 hour drive definitely!"

Sarah Oakley

"The Jamestown Settlement was an absolutely amazing experience! The indoor museum was beautifully designed and packed with fascinating information. Even inside, it felt like stepping back in time.

But the real magic happened outside. The reconstructed Jamestown fort was incredible—we watched a blacksmith at work and visited the baker, who even let our kids help make a type of cookie! At the armory, a knowledgeable guide shared all about the weapons used during the settlement era.

We then explored a full-scale replica of one of the ships that brought settlers to Virginia, which was both impressive and educational. Finally, we visited the Native American village area. Although no interpreters were there at the time, walking through and seeing how the homes were constructed was still an incredible experience.

This place is unforgettable. I truly loved every part of it and highly recommend it to anyone interested in history."
