What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors appreciate the natural beauty of Lower Howard's Creek Preserve, particularly the opportunities for children to play in the creek and the scenic trails along the Kentucky River. However, the preserve's very limited Thursday-only operating hours and sometimes challenging trail conditions are noted drawbacks. Some visitors are also disappointed by restricted access to certain natural features.
"Gate was locked for 10 minutes after the posted opening .trails were well maintained and not crowded until we were returning to the gate. One group had dogs with them allowing them to use the creek side as a bathroom same group had toddlers and allowed them to also use the bathroom in the creek side. As we were leaving several groups were arriving at 12:45PM when the posted closing time was 1:00 PM stronger control on this area is warranted"

"I just went for the first time, 2days ago. We went back again today!! The kids and husband and myself all had a good time playing in the water. Haven't gone on more than 1 trail either. Its great! Moderate to difficult trails but my kids are 7 and 9 and my husband and I are 40. We saw people with smaller kids, I recommend you keep them close! Also, not stroller friendly. No dogs allowed. No fishing allowed. They have parking spaces right next to Halls On The River and across the street. We had a blast!"

"Beautiful trail near Kentucky River. But very short. It took us 30 min to drive there from Lex. But the trail is short. We did it in summer. If you want to do complete trail, note it's muddy trail. Good for kids since they can play along the river stream."

Recent reviews indicate that "natural protection" efforts have led to some areas, including previously accessible waterfalls, being closed off to the public. This means that while the preserve offers beautiful natural scenery, access to certain features may be restricted.
