What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the historic CCC cabins and the breathtaking views from the Rim Trail and overlooks. The remote, natural setting is a major draw, offering a peaceful escape. While the drive can be challenging, most agree the destination is well worth the effort for its unique charm and stunning scenery.
"This is one of the best cabin getaways I have enjoyed in years. Old school forest service cabins in excellent condition, the cabin was cool and comfortable due to the stone, lots of windows and mountain breezes even with one day of record high early heat and humidity. Felt tucked away in the forest yet nearby to staff and the cutest little supply shop. Amber was on duty during my stay and could be a lifetime friend! If all people communicated as well and consistently friendly eager and helpful we all would be better off! She is a gem and clearly loves the work she has done here and the beauty and nature of this special place. There are basic provisions and really nice forest service items to purchase as well as maps and any trail advice or resources you need she can help you with.
You won't want to leave once on site, it is a long slow drive in on switchbacks and dirt/gravel so have all that you need coming up. The cabin is stocked with basic kitchen items, comfortable furnishings and wood for fireplace if needed. You do need to bring bedding towels personal supplies, things typical for forest service rentals if you have not done this before. It is so worth the extra items and effort to stay in a historic cabin.
The cabin on the end is just steps away from the Ozark Highland Trail and at around mile 15 on trail from Lake Ft Smith and you can continue on from here. Make time to do the short Rim Trail that goes right past cabin areas and loops around the campsites and picnic places. The views are amazing and so green and was lucky to enjoy one day of misty slow rain in the forest that was magical!"

"White Rock Mountain is gorgeous. The rim trail is fairly easy. We were caught in a rainfall, but thankfully shelter was available along the trail. We plan to come back in the fall!"
