Moving to yakima. Is crime really that bad? what parts of town should I avoid? any advice for someone moving to somewhere cold for the first time?

I would love to live near downtown, but looks like most people recommend against it. How bad is the crime? My girlfriend and I lived near downtown Houston, she grew up in the barrio, and we're not particularly fearful... still, I'd like to live somewhere I could go on a jog at…

Where to take dogs off leash?

The dog park by the humane society isn't great. Bonus points for suggestions in/near Selah. TIA!

Reviews Summary

Randall Park is widely praised as a beautiful and safe space for families, offering excellent playground facilities and a lovely walking trail around a pond. Visitors appreciate the natural beauty and the convenience of picnic areas and ample parking. Some note the seasonal limitation of restroom facilities.

"Beautiful park with lots of nature to spot encompassed by a great paved walking trail. The kids enjoyed the play structures while the mamas enjoyed chatting in the shade at a nearby picnic table."

Liz C

"Randall Park is a great park that is safe for kids with two different play structures (one for the toddlers, the other for the older kids). The park is also flanked by a fresh water pond and it’s a great place for birding! I saw Widgeons, House Sparrows, Red-winged blackbirds, and mourning doves (heard only). During the colder winter and spring months, there is only porta potty access, but when the weather warms up, the bathrooms open up again. It’s a great place for families, birders, those with dogs, and if you need a little exercise and need to walk a few laps around the park. It’s a very lovely park with a lot of free and easy parking."

Ryan C

"This park has a huge play structure that is very interesting and intricate. Yeah this structure is huge. Four slides, tons of rope bridges, rope tunnels, bars, and other random things to climb on.
And then on top of that there is a smaller Play structure a little bit to the side of the huge play structure. Sorry guys, I didn't really check that one out too much. My daughter was having too much fun on the big one and it was getting late, so we had to go."
