"The Natural Bridge in Yellowstone is a beautiful spot and well worth the short hike. The trail is easy and mostly flat, winding through peaceful forest before opening up to an impressive stone arch carved by water over time. The formation stands tall and feels like a hidden gem tucked away from the busier areas of the park."
Lisa Crocker
"If you are staying at the Bridge Bay Camp Ground don't miss this short easy walk to the Natural Bridge (3 miles round trip). You may stumble upon a bear, elk, or mule deer along this trail so be wildlife aware. But don't let this stop you from exploring this beautiful area."
Robert Hennessy
"Great hike while we were staying at Bridge Bay Campground. Didn't even have to drive to it, you can walk from Loop A. Easy trail to the bridge, you can walk or ride your bike. The formation is really neat and there is a side hike up the mountain to get closer to the bridge at the top. This hike is more difficult and narrow up the mountainside, but worth it if you chose to climb it. Really neat to be able to look through the bridge opening at the top!"

The Geology of the Natural Bridge
While the main trail leads to the base of the bridge, a more adventurous path allows visitors to ascend the mountainside. This climb, though more challenging and narrow, rewards hikers with a breathtaking vantage point. From here, you can look directly through the opening of the arch, offering a completely different and often more dramatic perspective of the surrounding landscape. This dual experience—from below and above—enhances the appreciation for the bridge's scale and beauty.
Many visitors find the Natural Bridge to be a hidden gem within Yellowstone, offering a more tranquil experience compared to the park's more famous geysers and hot springs. The relatively easy access from the Bridge Bay Campground makes it a convenient stop, and the potential for wildlife sightings adds an element of excitement to the visit. It’s a place where you can connect with the natural world in a peaceful and awe-inspiring setting.
Wildlife Encounters and Safety
While the main trail is relatively easy, the side trail that leads to the top of the bridge is more challenging and narrow. This increased difficulty means you should be extra vigilant about your surroundings. Wildlife can be present on any trail, and it's crucial to make noise as you hike to avoid surprising animals. Respecting their space ensures a safer experience for both you and the wildlife.
Many visitors have shared their excitement about spotting animals in this area, noting that it adds a special dimension to their visit. However, it's important to remember that these are wild animals in their natural environment. Following park guidelines and exercising caution will help ensure that everyone can enjoy the beauty of Natural Bridge Lake and its inhabitants safely.
