What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Bosque de Ombúes for its unique natural beauty and the exceptional guidance provided by local experts like Marcos. The boat tours offer a serene way to experience the ancient ombú groves and observe local wildlife. While the experience is generally highly recommended, some may find the tour duration a bit short if they are looking for extensive hiking.
"We contacted them the day before for a boat tour, which lasted nearly 3hrs. As it was low season we were alone and did enjoy a wonderful tour with Marcos who is extremely passionate about the Ombués. He is a great source of knowledge of the Ombués and a wonderful guide. Even though our Spanish is very limited he took to the time and efforts to explain in simple terms the beauty and uniqueness of the area. We learned so much about the Ombués and what is means to keep nature in a balance. Furthermore, Marcos is such a friendly and humorous person that the whole trip will be a remarkable experience and memory of our our time in Uruguay. It’s a must do if your interested in nature and what to disfrutar something special. Thanks Marcos !"

"Pretty beautiful"

"We took this tour with Marcos and another gentleman whose name I don't recall, after making a phone reservation, although there are still openings available at this time of year.
The tour departs by boat from Route 10 and the Valizas Stream, heading to Castillos Lagoon.
There, you disembark at the Los Olivera Ombú Grove. Marcos points out the different trees, explaining the characteristics of each one, how they grow, how they are cared for, etc. He indicates where you can take fun photos and has a special talent for entertaining children.
Then, you cross by boat to the municipal Ombú grove located opposite, on the other side of the stream. Here, the route is shorter, and you can appreciate an Ombú grove untouched by human intervention or livestock.
The tour concludes by returning to the starting point by boat, watching, in our case because we took the tour in the afternoon, as the sun sets. The trail is beautiful and incredibly peaceful. They point out the different birds you can see along the way. And arriving at the ombú forest with Laguna de Castillo in the background is stunning. Highly recommended! We loved it and everyone enjoyed it immensely!"
