What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Chapel of San Antonio for its absolutely stunning panoramic views of Piriápolis and the coastline, calling it a must-see. The charming chapel and the serene atmosphere at the summit are also frequently highlighted as positive aspects of the experience. Some minor points of improvement mentioned include the upkeep of certain facilities.
"Historically, the hill was known as the English Hill, a name it took from a British company that operated in the area around 1715. In 1919, a chapel was built on its summit with a statue of Saint Anthony inside. Since then it has been named after that saint. The original sculpture was the work of the French architect Pierre Guichot, but it was destroyed - for reasons unknown - and a replica brought from Europe was installed in its place in 1933. You can get there by car or on foot; its landscapes and views will amaze you. From up there you can see the whole beach and surroundings of Piriapolis. The average distance from the Central Plaza of Piriápolis to Capela de San Antonio by car is: 5.6 km."
