Reviews Summary

Reviews for the Punta del Este Lighthouse area are mixed, with many praising the iconic views and pleasant promenade walks. However, some dining experiences near the lighthouse have been criticized for disorganization and high prices, despite the quality of the food itself.

"February 2024:
This time, we saw on social media Lighthouse's offer for Friday's sourdough pizza buffet with free soft drinks for USD 35 per person.
We had been to the restaurant once before when we were staying at the hotel, and the restaurant experience was truly terrible (not so the hotel, where the experience was impeccable), which is why we wanted to give it another try.
We arrived and were seated at table 6, right next to the window with a view of the promenade.
This is where the adventure of disorganization and chaos began.
To begin with, it took approximately 15 minutes for them to bring us drinks (you'd think that since drinks are free, you just order and they'd bring them, but they didn't). The drinks were brought in pitchers and they kept passing around and serving them. The only option was warm, still Diet Coke or water—a real disaster.
Then it took approximately 20 minutes for the pizza to be delivered. The waiters' route was completely unthought-out. The tables furthest away didn't receive anything, as they would repeat their route, and by the time they reached the end, only one slice remained.
On the other hand, the flavors offered were inconsistent. I mean, they offered two types of pizza per round. If I offer Hawaiian pizza, the other pizza shouldn't have been palm hearts or shrimp, but something everyone would enjoy. Common sense, both in the organization and the service, was conspicuous by its absence.
Some tables ate 20 slices while others barely ate 3, completely pointless.
On top of that, the staff was very understaffed, haphazard (well-disposed but literally at a loss for what to do), and at times, there was no one delivering pizzas. There were 10-minute gaps where no one served either drinks or pizza. In conclusion, I once again confirm the organizational disaster of the 5-star hotel restaurant, the lack of professionalism, and I think the service.
If you want to experience a true nightmare and have your dinner subdued, come to the Lighthouse Restaurant at the Grand Hotel. You'll surely leave feeling extremely frustrated and your dinner ruined.
I won't return nor recommend it. The atmosphere is very basic and impersonal, and the olive oil is the centerpiece, incomprehensible.
P.S. The pizzas we tried were good, nothing special. The winner was the 4-cheese pizza. The fainá needed 2 grams of baking powder to make a beautiful chickpea sponge cake."
