What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Fort Christian offers a glimpse into the island's Danish colonial past with its historic architecture and panoramic rooftop views. While some visitors find the self-guided tour lacking in detailed signage, others appreciate the well-preserved dungeon cells and the overall historical atmosphere. It's a worthwhile stop for history buffs, though those seeking extensive interpretation might find it underwhelming.
"We came here on a Monday for a tour. We paid for tickets at the gate - I think it was $10/person if I am remembering correctly. The tour is self-guided and they give you a map. It was fun exploring the grounds. It’s not so big that it will take you hours but there is plenty of history. There’s not much informational signage other than what is on the map and in a few of the rooms.
The woman at the gate was friendly.
They do have bottled to purchase if needed. I don’t remember seeing a gift shop but there are restrooms onsite.
Not sure on parking. We took a taxi from the hotel and walked around town.
We enjoyed this stop on our trip."

"Very underwhelming. $10 per person. Only one plaque and one iPad with explanations in the whole place. The cells in the dungeon full of pictures and no text. The map is not useful (and wrong). The scant brochure ends mid-sentence. Theres no real context. The only positives I took away from there are the huge differences evident from the dungeon cells below and the governors rooms right above them, and the fact that there ARE still indigenous peoples present in the Caribbean (Taino).
I’m a history buff - this could be really interesting (like the fort in St Augustine) but as it is it’s mostly not worth a visit. Sadly."

"The tour of the church was excellent, but the recording was not working properly so you were not able to get the full history of each room. The lookout at the rooftop is the best view of the entire city. Self-directed tour."
