What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the St. Thomas Historical Trust's guided tours, highlighting the exceptional knowledge and passion of their volunteer guides. The walking and hiking tours are consistently praised for bringing the island's history to life. While the museum itself is small, it serves as a great starting point for these immersive historical experiences.
"Did the walking tour with Liz and even with carnival going on, she was able to give a fantastic tour, definitely recommend if you're looking to learn the history of the area!"
Jeffrey Harper
"Fantastic walking tour of historic Charlotte Amalia with Liz. Wonderful & colorful stories of the history of the island and its architecture. Liz obviously has a love of St. Thomas and the islands history. Highly recommended."
Kristin Daus
"I've taken two tours with the trust and both were fantastic, small group experiences. I'm a history geek, I go on a lot of historical tours, and the tours with trust are top notch. The two tour guides are very knowledgeable, they answer all your questions citing primary sources and let you know when they're making inferences, these are not people who will make up fun stories for tourists.
For context, the trust is a small organization, and I believe it's completely volunteer run. I've emailed them a few times, and they're always been responsive. Sometimes it take a few days to get a response, because these people are volunteers busy living their lives.
The tours meet at the museum, and the exploring the artifacts is fun for a bit. That said, it's a pretty small museum, and I wouldn't plan a trip around the museum if I wasn't going on a tour. Also, it might be closed if the trust is running a tour.
Overall, the trust does an amazing job of both preserving St Thomas' history and sharing it with visitors."
