While a few have experienced unwelcoming interactions regarding attire, most find the site to be a peaceful and historically significant place. Reddit

"We expected to be treated badly as per other reviews, but the Iman was nice as we came to the mosque knowing it was a place of prayer and not a tourist attraction.

The mosaics are beautiful!"

Pedro A.

"Awesome place and the Iman was really kind with us (two women alone) and he showed us all the beautiful inside of the mosque. It was amazing to see the not restored parts and the wooden columns."

Arianna Valmassoi

"This is the location of Imam al Bukhari’s residence, but the residence itself is long gone. The people who come to pray at the adjacent Hojja Zainuddin mosque were very kind to me and explained that the ground of the Imam’s birthplace was considered too sacred to allow anyone to trample it, so it was decided to make a pool on the location of the Imam’s house. The material removed to create the pool was used in the construction of other mosques in Bukhara, allowing them to share the blessings of the Imam’s birthplace. the pool was a source of water for the needy, and was supplied by an irrigation system that brought water from afar. I have a photograph from 2001 that shows the pool was filled with water, but now they told me that as the area around the pool was built up, the pipes that brought water to the pool were destroyed, so it has been dry for many years."
