Reviews Summary

This museum offers a valuable glimpse into Aragua's rich history and pre-Hispanic past, featuring significant artifacts and a historically important building. While it hosts cultural activities and has a unique on-site café, some visitors note that the museum's upkeep could be improved. Reddit+1

"The headquarters of the Aragua State Anthropology and History Museums was built in 1930 for the newly created Banco Agrícola y Pecuario and Banco Obrero. The original design by Lambert, Saacke, and Bailly consisted of two floors with an eclectic and colorful design. It was later modified by Carlos Raúl Villanueva, who removed the second floor and simplified the arches of the external corridor. Inside, the building features spaces organized by parallel and perpendicular axes, complemented by entrances, patios, and staircases. The exterior is surrounded by a gallery with semicircular arches. This property was declared a National Historic Monument according to Official Gazette No. 32,024 of July 11, 1980, and houses valuable collections of bone pieces, ceramics, and hunting objects from the pre-Hispanic period found in Aragua and Carabobo, as well as 16th-century religious artifacts, documents related to the Liberator, oil portraits of Venezuelan presidents by the Sevillian artist Juan Antonio Rodríguez, and furniture and other belongings of General Juan Vicente Gómez. Its current state of preservation is average."

Jorge Barrios-Montilla

"They're doing cultural activities. It's good to create new spaces for culture, but I have two pieces of advice. It doesn't cost them anything to clean the place up. It was disgusting."

Cleo Klein

"I would like Governor Jhoana to take the time to show interest in reactivating such emblematic and historic sites as the Anthropology Museum, the Bolívar Sugar Mill, the Gómez Mausoleum, among others..."
