"Review for The Flower Garden Hotel, Hanoi
⭐☆☆☆☆ (1/5)
I rarely write negative reviews — as a frequent traveller who prefers simple, quaint hotels in good areas, I value warmth and efficiency over luxury. But my stay at The Flower Garden Hotel was unfortunately disappointing on too many fronts.
I was first given a room where the air-conditioning didn’t work. After repeated requests, the staff finally admitted — at midnight — that it couldn’t be fixed and agreed to change my room, but offered no help with the luggage.
The new room had an unflushed toilet, and the bathroom fittings were in poor condition — only the hand shower worked, and the water mixer was either scalding hot or icy cold. The bathtub design is quite unsafe, especially for older guests, as it requires a high and awkward hop-out.
The bed blankets were stained, no complimentary water bottles were provided, and to top it off, a large bug crawled out of my bag after being in the closet.
Breakfast was another letdown — stale and unappetising, not something you’d expect even from a modest property.
To be fair, the staff were polite and kind, and the location is excellent — central, vibrant, and easy to walk to many good spots in Hanoi. But the property itself is poorly maintained and not worth the price or the trouble.
Would not recommend staying here until the hotel seriously upgrades its rooms, maintenance, and hygiene standards.

"Nice city hotel, good location not far from the Old Quarter. Lots of tourists coming and going, the staff here know what they’re doing and get everyone organised. Food in the hotel was good and the view from the rooftop bar worth the trip in the lift. Would recommend if you’re staying in Hanoi."

"The hotel makes a strong first impression. The lobby is beautiful, the breakfast buffet had plenty of choice, and the staff were all very kind and helpful.
Unfortunately, the rooms told a different story. Our first room smelled strongly of lemongrass, which seemed to cover an older, musty odor. The bathroom ceiling looked grey from mould, and the humidity was so heavy that the floor was damp by morning, with droplets forming on the ceiling in my sisters’ room.
When we returned later in the trip, our new room had visible mould on the headboard, ceiling, and even inside the air-conditioning unit. The bathroom had clearly been bleached, which shows some effort, but overall the conditions were still uncomfortable.
This hotel has real potential — the food, lobby, and staff all show what it could be — but the rooms need urgent attention."

Seasonal Blooms and Tet Traditions
Visiting during Tet can be a truly immersive cultural experience, offering a glimpse into Vietnamese traditions. However, be prepared for larger crowds during this festive period. The sheer volume of people wanting to capture the beauty of the Tet flowers means you'll need to be patient. If you prefer a more tranquil experience, consider visiting during the shoulder seasons when the flower displays are still impressive but the crowds are thinner.
Pro Tip: While the main garden areas are often free, some individual flower farms within Nhat Tan may charge a small entrance fee to access their meticulously cultivated plots. This fee usually grants you access to take photos within their specific flower displays.
Photography Paradise
When planning your visit, consider bringing a wide-angle lens to capture the expansive flower fields and a telephoto lens for close-ups of individual blooms or portraits with the floral backdrop. Don't forget to explore the various sections of the garden; each farm might have a unique specialty or arrangement. Interacting with the local farmers tending to their crops can also lead to authentic and memorable photographs.
Remember: Be respectful of the flowers and the farmers' work. Avoid stepping on plants or disturbing the arrangements. If you're taking photos of people, it's always polite to ask for their permission first.
