What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Ewanrigg Botanical Garden offers a peaceful retreat with impressive natural beauty, especially during the March aloe bloom. While some areas show signs of age, the welcoming staff, good food at the restaurant, and excellent picnic facilities make it a worthwhile visit for nature lovers and families.
"My friend and I came on a Thursday, mid-afternoon in March. Not a single soul was around except for the workers.
Everything is pretty much exactly as the Rhodesians left it, decaying day by day. This park was opened in 1950 and declared a National Park in 1960, the land was donated by Harold Basil Christian. There is a really nice article in an old issue of Rhodesia Calls, so you can see how it looked when there was funding for upkeep.
It's $6 for 2 locals in a car, probably $10 or more per head for a tourist."

"A little run down, but a great place to be. We were there after a long dry spell, so plants were not at their best, but still some were impressive. Great to see Hammerkop & Pied Kingfisher, from the small friendly restaurant, which served good food. Thank you."

"This is the best time of the year to visit Ewanrigg as the aloes are just wonderful.
The Zimparks have a restaurant near the top of the hill and it serves a widerange of meals at most reasonable prices. The bar is well stocked and you can get cool drinks as well as teas."
