Reviews Summary

Papa Zouk is celebrated for its incredibly fresh and delicious seafood, particularly the red snapper and lobster, served in a vibrant and uniquely decorated atmosphere. Diners love the friendly, engaging owner and staff, the extensive rum selection, and the lively zouk music that creates a memorable dining experience. However, some mention that while the food is high quality, side dishes are minimal and prices reflect American standards.

"Just had a wonderful meal there after returning from Barbuda on the ferry. Fried red snapper and lobster were wonderful. Love the Bouillabaisse and the conch fritters as well. A big thumbs up from everybody."

Philip Schwartz

"My spouse and I were recommended to go to this place if we wanted to enjoy good seafood.
I won’t lie, food was really good. However, we did not end up the night quite pleased.
The people that work there are very nice and friendly, anything you need they will assist you. As a drink, we order the rum punch, their specialty. Really strong, we were a little buzzed with just one drink 🤣
As I said, the quality of the food was good.
Their bread is DELICIOUS!! We were very surprised.
My spouse ordered the fried red snapper, I ordered the house mix platter. All fresh and tasty. Food took a little bit to prepare, which we appreciate because it means it’s fresh cooked.
The only reason I do not give them 5 stars is because we felt like they charge you American prices. No sides with your food, besides a small salad. If you order fish, you’ll have fish. Nothing to eat it with.
Overall, we were satisfied with the quality of the food, the environment and the service."

"Best Birthday vacation ever in 2023 and a pescatarian’s Dreams.. It was fulfilling and finger licking tasty good! Worth every Penny.I will be back when I get back."

Restaurants in Antigua

According to owner Bert Kirchner, Papa Zouk is not a restaurant, but a rum shop surreptitiously disguised as a favorite seafood joint—don’t miss the pan-fried snapper and garlicky gumbo (bouillabaisse). Located off the beaten path, the deliberately kitschy decor—madras tablecloths and lobster traps turned chandeliers—draws a hodgepodge of characters from locals to English Harbour yachties, actor Robert De Niro, and the man who notoriously set the bar ablaze. Showcasing more than 100 rums, the bar includes rums from Japan, Papua New Guinea, and, of course, Antigua.

9 Best Restaurants in Antigua

In Dickenson Bay, Papa Zouk’s is a rum bar that happens to offer excellent seafood dishes. Owned by German transplant Bert Kirchner, the bar is named after a man in Dominica who fascinated Kirchner with his ability to dance to Zouk music despite being deaf and mute. The dinner-only bar has a signature dish, red snapper, though the butternut fish and grouper in garlic sauce are superb.
