Reviews Summary

Herringbone is praised for its fresh, seasonal South Australian produce and warm, inviting atmosphere, making it a standout dining experience. While many enjoy the communal sharing style and unique dishes, some diners found certain meat dishes fatty or the portion sizes small for the price. Service can be a highlight, though occasional inconsistencies have been noted.

"I had the great pleasure of dining in with my work mate at Herringbone on another business trip to Adelaide.

Our server was very charming and recommended the sharing menu. Additionally we have a wonderful selection of red wines. The kitchen stayed open as we were the last customers which we were grateful for.

Highly recommend Herringbone for delicious modern Australian cuisine that uses the best ingredients."

"We chose this restaurant for Valentine’s Day, and it had a lovely, intimate atmosphere. Overall, it was a great experience. The food was good, but I think the meat on the menu was a bit too fatty, which made me feel slightly uncomfortable later at night. Other than that, everything was enjoyable!"

PINAR T.

"The prosciutto was the stand out dish. We had an unfortunate experience with the oysters. There was a worm/centipede in the dish when it arrived. Although a new dish was brought out, it would have been nice to have received a gesture for this, however we were ushered out towards the end of the session (6-8pm) although the longer session was due to delays in food delivery rather than us lingering. The atmosphere is nice but unfortunately the night was tarnished by the service."

Adelaide’s 20 most powerful restaurants in the city – ranked

Setting up shop in the former site of a good restaurant that didn’t work out is perhaps one of the toughest ways to begin, but Herringbone has washed away all memories of the previous venue and made its mark on Halifax Street and t he broader food and wine scene in Adelaide. A new restaurant, and a good restaurant, and a personal favourite of the editors of this magazine, Herringbone became a solidified entrant in our inaugural Restaurant Power Rankings list once John Lethlean put it on his 2019 ‘Hot’ list. Because, well, who are we to argue?
