Reviews Summary

Parwana Afghan Kitchen is celebrated for its authentic and flavorful Afghan cuisine, with many highlighting the delicious Mantu dumplings and signature eggplant dish. The vibrant atmosphere and family-run charm contribute to a positive dining experience. However, some diners have found the menu limited and have occasionally noted issues with seasoning or service, though overall sentiment remains high.

"We had an amazing dinner. The food was extraordinary, very decadent, and wholesome. The idea that the food is made we love.

Exclusively byo and the staff were so knowledgeable and charismatic. Such a pleasure.

We ordered the eggplant, the dumplings, and the dips. Highly recommend"

"We visited late on a weeknight for dinner. It was busy and very popular we thought. We ordered the vegetable fritters, dumplings, rice and the chicken dish. The menu is small with a few selections for each course, brilliant. It's simple! The food was fresh and cooked well but for us it was disappointing with actual flavour. We felt it was all under seasoned and needed more spices, Bland and lacked that wow factor I was hoping for. It was over $110 for a soft drink each, shared entree, rice, dumplings and the chicken. The gentleman that owns it was lovely. We had a long chat with him about his family history and his story. The restaurant is warm and inviting with family photos up on the walls. If only the food was as sensational as we'd been told it was. We would definitely go back if it was. We may revisit and see if it was just a one off."

Kylie Roberts

"The menu seemed quite limited, not a lot of options. Although have to give credit where it’s due as each dish packed a lot of flavour and also was very quick to come out probably due to the fact everyone else is ordering the same dishes. Filling portions, with only 3 dishes we were very full between the two of us. The lamb was the highlight, very flavourful and spiced well. The lamb was also soft and easy to chew. The chutney was minty and paired well with the lamb. The eggplant dish was nice and the eggplant taste was strong not overpowered by the seasonings. The fried dumplings were still crisp despite the lamb mince and yoghurt on top. The restaurant is quite popular which makes the environment loud with chatter, so if you’re looking for a quaint and quiet place to eat, this is not the restaurant for you. Overall a good restaurant to try Afghan dishes."

Afghan food made for sharingWhen Parwana opened its doors in 2009, Adelaide fell in love with the Ayubi family, their story and a centuries-old cuisine. “We believe that even loss and suffering can forge beauty and generosity,” states the website, and this ethos infuses the spirit of the restaurant. A visit to Parwana, painted in rich hues of blue, red, yellow and peach, is always an occasion – not least when sharing plates like karayee morgh (pan-fried chicken pieces, marinated in yoghurt and coated with traditional spices) and narenj palaw (rice with candied orange peel, slivered almonds and pistachios) begin to fill the table.124B Henley Beach Road, Torrensville.

Founded in 2009 by Zelmai and Farida Ayubi, Parwana showcases the cuisine of Afghanistan, their first home from which they fled in 1987. They’ve recreated a tiny bit of home in the restaurant, which has a colourful pink and blue interior and brightly patterned tiles, while walls are adorned with family photographs. The regularly updated menu might include delicious mantu dumplings (without meat), a warm bundle of pastry-wrapped vegies with a piquant tomato sauce and yoghurt; or grilled Afghan meats matched with breads and brightly flavoured chutneys.
