While many rave about the delicious food and charming ambiance, some diners find the prices to be on the higher side for the portion sizes. Despite occasional mentions of service speed, the overall experience is frequently described as delightful and a taste of provincial France.
"We've been traveling around Australia for the last 5 weeks. This coffee was the very best we've had. Full flavored and beautiful. My husband had a second cup for the road.
The ham, cheese and tomato croissant was absolutely wonderful!
Service was quick and all of the staff were on top of it.
Thanks for a great start to our day!"

"This is a casual French style cafe located along Stirling Terrace in Albany. Opening hours are 7am to 12.30pm (Tues to Sat). They have a eclectic yet quaint indoor seating area along with outside tables. We stopped here for a light breakfast during a recent visit to Albany.
On the day, we tried a couple of their quiche servings, which were both generally good, nothing outstanding nor bad. Long Black coffee was ok, Macchiato rather nice. Service was slower than most, felt the prices were a bit high for what they were serving on the day. Otherwise, Gourmandise & Co is a neat place to try while in Albany."

The cafe's on York St and the Terrace are fine and all (Gourmandise and Co is particularly impressive), however its really hard to find places that really shine as true contenders for the city's best and most interesting restaurant; even the better dining options recommended by our family in the region have lagged behind memorable dining experiences like Pepper & Salt in Denmark, and Foragers in Pemberton - strange, considering Albany is a city compared to those much smaller towns.

There’s a reason that return visitors to Albany make a beeline for Gourmandise & Co. A little slice of provincial France in regional Australia, the rustic and warm atmosphere is complemented by woodfired bread, French breakfast specialties and lunchtime treats. Take a seat at the long communal table in the heart of the café, order the teurgoule Normande – a buttery breakfast bowl similar to a rice pudding – and drift off on a mini European sojourn.

Top 10: the very best food in Albany
Part deli, part bakery, part coffee shop, and a general hive of activity, this little gem draws crowds daily. With dandelion-yellow walls and a long communal table, this is a joyful café indeed. The menu has a French flair (whipped up by a French chef, no less) and is mouth-wateringly good, so make sure you arrive early before the pastries sell out.
