Reviews Summary
The Forge Pizzeria is praised for its delicious wood-fired pizzas and creative toppings, as well as its stylish industrial atmosphere that creates a welcoming dining experience. While many rave about the friendly staff and great vibe, some patrons have encountered issues with slow service during peak times and inconsistencies in food preparation, particularly regarding saltiness and portion sizes for gluten-free options.
"Visited here recently while passing through Ballarat for the night and were seated straight away at one of the many distressed wooden tables.
We ordered the Forge Meatballs, the Cheesy Garlic Pizza (from the specials board) and the Sliced Potato Pizza to share. The food arrived quickly and was incredible! Delicious Italian at its absolute best. The meatballs were perfectly cooked and the pizza had just the right amount of quality ingredients on the toppings. We loved it so much that we grabbed a box to take the left over slices home!
The staff were really friendly and super attentive and the restaurant itself had an industrial look that was spacious yet comfortable. Combine that with great music and you have the perfect atmosphere to dine in!
It’s clearly a local favourite and now ours for whenever we’re in Ballarat!"

"Called in just before 6pm on a cold wet Ballarat Saturday night without a booking. Plenty of seats available and waitress pleasantly and professionally seated us for our request for a table of two. Our drinks order was asked and appropriate time afforded us before waitress sought our food order. Drinks and food delivered correctly and not undue delay. Please note it was not peak time so this helped the quick delivery of food. Food was nice, appealing, tasty and sufficient quantity. Prices are reasonable against like dining. Interior has that old warehouse / commercial vibe with nice ambience. Hard concrete flooring and having been here once before at peak time the customer noise does build. This venue holds its own amount the many nearby varied food venues. You are not packed in and tables and chairs are functional. Couple of long e tended tables for bigger groups but make a booking to ensure you can get them. Over all happy to recommend when you want a pizza pasta feed."

"Seated at 12:40pm.
No attention from waitstaff until 1:30pm when we flagged them down and requested water for the table and for our order to be taken.
2 x pizzas, 1 x bowl of chips and 1 x soft drink - not a difficult order.
A 35 minute wait for one soft drink to arrive. Over 45 minutes since ordering for our food to arrive, 1 hour and 35 minutes since we were first seated!!
Yes it was busy due to Ballarat Marathon, however this is should be accounted for in staffing and management should be present and taking accountability for the disgraceful service during these peak times.
We were recommended to come here, and probably won’t return due to the horrendous service which is a shame because the food was good but tainted by the experience.
Shout out to the young blonde female waiter for acknowledging how frustrated we must of been and did everything in her power to keep checking on the status of our food etc."

The 50 Best Gluten-Free Spots in Ballarat Central
My pizza (Vesuvius) looked great but was extremely salty, most likely due to anjovis that had not been soaked. This pizza was also supposed to contain gorgonzola but I did not detect any, possibly because the anjovis taste might have overwhelmed the gorgonzola taste but I also did not notice any gorgonzola visually. My wife's gluten free pizza was much smaller, and there was not as much toppings as you would have expected for the price (especially considering that there was a $4 surcharge on the gluten-free base).
The best of Ballarat
Having recently returned from a trip to Italy it’s fair to say I know a good pizza when I eat one!. The Forge’s wood fire pizzas are a dining highlight in Ballarat with no other pizza place in town coming close in competition. Toppings are generally more skewed towards more of an Australian style than Italian but this makes for marvelous meat lover varieties including my favourite, the pulled pork pizza.
