I’m a bit of a creature of habit and like to stick to things that I am comfortable with and enjoy, the Roadhouse creates an interesting dilemma for me… I’ve had some incredible meals here over the last 3-4 years that I’ve been going to Byron. The dilemma is every time I go back, sometimes even on the same trip these incredible meals have been replaced on the menu, the good news is usually with something equally as good.

From 4:00 pm Wednesday to Sunday, The Roady turns into a tapas bar, slinging a raft of cocktails alongside contemporary Spanish eats like escabeche with pickled mussels, gazpacho, and sobrasada with goats cheese and olives.

The roadhouse is our go to for coffee when we are in town, or even any form of hot drinks as they have them 100% down pat. From Turmeric lattes, coffee from ‘All press’, or a plethora of various mushroom to matcha potions.. The food is all locally sourced, the pasties are the best pasties in Australia (you’ll have to be there early) and they have a new wood fired pizza joint next door in the evening.

Roadhouse is one of those all-rounder venues that’s there for you no matter what. It’s open for breakfast, brunch, lunch – closes for a few hours, and is back for dinner with live tunes, every day apart from Tuesday. Trust us when we say fun will be had at this light-filled, shabby chic venue… and if you visit at the right time of the year, you might be lucky and get a bowl of their famous ramen.

Packed – almost too much so – with flavoursome filling, these tacos are a must-order in this funky diner on the outskirts of town. Crispy fish, red cabbage slaw, avocado, roasted baby tomatoes, roasted corn off the cob and picante mayo – delicious. Since opening about 3 years ago, The Roadhouse changes its menus every 3 months – though I think these tacos are such a hit they’ll stay!

Woods Café in Bangalow: Just a 2-minute walk from our house, this is definitely one of our favourite local cafes. The staff is super friendly and the plant-based food is divine. There’s also a pretty courtyard where kids can run around while you wait for your food or enjoy a second coffee.

Another favorite of mine, this cafe has a great location, just a five-minute drive from my apartment in Suffolk Park (so I could skip the crazy traffic in town). Roadhouse is well known for having some of the best coffee in Byron – their outdoor terrace is always full of groups of people.
