Discover the only gin distillery on the Great Ocean Road and one of the best local places to dine at the Apollo Bay Distillery. Located on the town’s main street, here you’ll find seasonally inspired pizzas made with local produce, an array of share plates including truffle fries, pumpkin arancini and cheese board selections, as well as its hand-crafted selection of house-made gins. These gins are distilled on-site and are linked to the nautical history of Apollo Bay and its heritage as part of the ‘shipwreck coast’.

In an ode to the old fishing town of Apollo Bay, its history and its culture, and located in one of the oldest buildings in town, this distillery-cum-bar, nods to the old folklores of the town in each and every one of its home-brewed gins. These handcrafted gins have been created with only local botanicals, which you can find out more about in one of the gin tastings or even an afternoon gin masterclass.

Apollo Bay Distillery aims to preserve the tales of Apollo Bay and embody the spirit of the town. Their gins are linked to the ships that sailed off this treacherous coast many years ago and serve as a strong reminder of Apollo Bay’s nautical history. Located in the old Post Office, built in 1970, they also house the anchor of the historic SS Casino who came to a fateful end off one of our local beaches.

Apollo Bay was given its name by Captain Loutit in 1845 after his trading vessel. Around that time the area was frequented by sailors, whalers, sealers and timber cutters who began coming to the area in the early 1800s. However, settlers didn’t begin building their homesteads in the Apollo Bay area until 1849 – four years after the town was founded.
