Apollo Bay Fishermen's Co-Op

The Apollo Bay Fishermen’s Co-Op is a world-famous seafood shop located on the Great Ocean Road, offering freshly caught seafood and delicious fish and chips. The Harbour Fish Shop provides customers with the opportunity to enjoy their meal with a view of the beautiful Apollo Bay Harbour. The Co-op offers a variety of high-quality fish sourced from wholesale markets, such as Tasmanian salmon, South Australian or Tasmanian oysters, and New South Wales prawns.

🌅 It was a clear day in mid-November and still a bit chilly with strong winds — so definitely bring a jacket, and maybe leave the hat at home unless you want it flying off into the ocean 😂 After soaking in the epic views, we hit up Apollo Bay Fishermen’s Co-Op for fish & chips!. 🐟 We shared a portion for two and even that was a lot!. The place isn’t super big, but it turns over fast and the staff are quick and friendly.

Sitting right on the pier, within reaching distance of the salty sea and its natural bounty is the Apollo Bay Fisherman’s Coop, said to be the best place for fish and chips in town and homes to some of the towns best cheap eats.

Have you truly been to Apollo Bay if you haven’t tried a scallop pie from the Apollo Bay Bakery?. The flaky pies use Bass Strait scallops, come in two versions (mornay and curry) and are particularly great in winter. Start your day with St Ali coffee at Icaro Cafe, where a wholefood menu gets down with the healthy eating pyramid and adds a strong vegan curveball with coconut-cream crepes.

We had a variety of meals during our stay in Apollo bay, from fine dining in the hillsides at Chris’s Restaurant to fish and chips fresh off the boat from the Fishermans’ Co-op. We also went for a hearty breakfast at Bay Leaf Cafe, where I had a great bacon avo bagel, if you’re looking for another food option, Cafe 153 has a variety of great breakfast selections.

Drop by and see the latest fresh catch, try some fresh local fish straight from the source, including a range of species filleted on site. Get a look at our world-class Southern Rock lobsters being offloaded from the boats before indulging in some of our world-class seafood. It doesn’t get any fresher.

For dinner, we headed to the Apollo Bay Fisherman’s Co-op for a fresh seafood feast. The seafood platter for two included prawns, fish, scallops, and chips—delicious and fresh. The marina setting added to the dining experience, with ocean views providing the perfect backdrop for the evening.

The fact that I’ve gone out of my way to eat at the Apollo Bay Fishermen’s Co-Op on multiple occasions, and now tell people to time a meal on the Great Ocean Road to coincide with its opening hours, probably tells you everything you need to know about this place. It really is that good.

Fisherman’s Co-Op – Outdoor picnic-style seating looking out over the pier. Most of the fish served at this friendly fish ‘n’ chip shop is caught locally. So you can watch the fisherman going in and out of the bay and returning (hopefully) with your lunch!.

We lunch at the Fishermen’s Co-op on the harbour where a parade of fishermen congregate to chat as we eat. There’s nothing that screams “Australian summer” more than fish and chips by the water with a chorus of screeching seagulls as an eager audience.

We did the Harbour Walk and at the turn around point found the Apollo Bay Fisherman’s Co-op. As we watched the amazing meals come out, we decided to stop here for lunch. The food was sensational – and huge servings!

The absolute must-do, however, is enjoying a seafood platter seaside on the wharf at the Apollo Bay Fishermans Co-op that has been operating locally for 70 years.
