Easily identifiable by its striped yellow umbrellas, street-side tables and retro-style booths, Bottle of Milk is a cherished Lorne cafe that has amassed a loyal following for two things— brekky and burgers. Situated directly across from the beach, the cafe doubles as a post-surf feed for locals and a lunch pit-stop for tourists passing through the Great Ocean Road. While burgers may typically be a PM option, Bottle of Milk pushes the boundaries with the Cold Shower, a hefty brekky burger filled with bacon, fried egg, tomato and avo among other additions.

I went to The Bottle of Milk on Saturday 2nd March (at 2 p.m.) with my partner and I rarely take the time to leave reviews when service was bad as I used to work in hospitality, too. I am coeliac and I do understand that cross contamination is the standard in all cafes and restaurants but some do take more measures to prevent cross contamination. When I asked about their gluten free buns, the girl at the cash register was very impatient and just wanted to take the order and did not care about what I had to say.

We filled in some time until the pouring rain passed by visiting the well-stocked book shop and then the Information Centre which has a brand new exhibition on the Great Ocean road. I already knew that the road was hand built by soldiers returning from the war but the video and photo footage of the process and stories from the soldiers gave me a whole new appreciation for the magnificent coastal road.

Smash a burger from The Bottle of Milk for an instant win; they’ll also help start your day the right way with pancakes and bacon-and-egg rolls. Scratch your ice cream itch at Gelato Gelato, which puts the art into artisan by making everything by hand. Vibey hangout Pizza Pizza does what it says on the box, with a menu going hard on Naples’ finest in a cute cottage just off the main drag.

Back into the township for lunch, The Bottle of Milk cafe is serving up the best milkshakes and gourmet burgers in Lorne. With locally sourced ingredients, the vast menu has everyone covered; with a breakfast menu, breakfast burgers, twelve beef burger options, five vegetarian burgers, and four chicken burgers, The Bottle of Milk cafe is a go-to for a mouthwatering feed.

The Bottle of Milk in Lorne is a great spot for an extra tasty burger and coffee. Customers are greeted with a warm and friendly atmosphere, with plenty of seating both inside and outside. On weekends, visitors can enjoy watching locals and tourists walking by with their cute dogs, and even friendly cockatiels will come to say hello.

Bottle of Milk has become something of a cult-classic along the Great Ocean Road. There is also a location in Torquay. The menu has over 20 burgers, many of which are vegetarian – and they are nothing like what you have seen before.

Once you’ve tried Mylk then we would suggest the Lorne Coffee Truck coffee shop that looks like the front of a car. It’s not actually a car but looks more like a truck; a fairly recent addition to the Lorne main st addition.
