MERAKI Greek Taverna

Stepping inside the heavily air-conditioned Manoli’s is like entering a traditional Greek island taverna. Think noisy relatives, traditional music and incredible homestyle mezedes, all served with a generous dash of local warmth. Fresh and authentic Greek food is what you can expect here; load the table with crispy whitebait, moreish pan-fried saganaki, a selection of home-made dips, and a veritable smorgasbord of meats and seafood.

Darwin’s got a vast Greek community and this foodie hot spot is a celebration of Kalymnian cooking traditions handed down from generation to generation. With a simple white and blue decor, the focus here is on the food, and the approach is mezethes-style dining, or having plates of food to share with your friends and family.

Hanuman features a menu of Thai, Malaysian, and Indian delicacies, while Manoli’s Greek Taverna and Stone House Wine Bar & Kitchen are all about old-world European charm and tapas-bar-style elegance. Little Miss Korea is known for its creative, modern twists on Korean BBQ dishes, while Wharf One Food & Wine and Crustaceans on the Wharf remain crowd favorites near the Darwin Waterfront. On the Cullen Bay side of town, Lola’s Pergola offers a carnival-like atmosphere and tasty cocktails, while Boatshed Coffee House is home to the best brunch in Darwin.

Tucked into the funky Austin Lane in the CBD, Meraki feels like a little slice of the Aegean in the middle of the city. It’s warm, welcoming and absolutely the spot if you’re chasing Greek food done right. The pastitsio is comfort on a plate - rich, layered pasta topped with velvety béchamel—while the Paidakia Arnisi (grilled lamb cutlets) bring the char and the flavour in equal measure.

Meraki Greek Taverna specializes in Greek cuisine, offering traditional Mediterranean dishes in a welcoming atmosphere. Zamaan Lebanese Cuisine is known for its Lebanese cuisine, providing a unique taste of the Mediterranean in Darwin. Charcoal Grill & Pide House offers a mix of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern dishes, focusing on charcoal-grilled meats and traditional Turkish pides.

Meraki Greek Taverna is located off Austin Lane in the city, and specialises in mezethes (small plates). Order traditional Greek dips and pita bread chased with lamb chops, char-grilled squid and quail. Darwin has a notable Greek community and the restaurant, with its convivial atmosphere and delicious Mediterranean-inspired menu is popular with both locals and visitors.

It was one of the main treatments used by Roman and Greek physicians to relieve pain. Massage therapy has lost some of its value and status with the unsavoury image developed by massage therapy parlours. However, as people came to understand that massage can minimize illness and promote rest, this image faded.

This week saw the final day of trading in Austin Lane for fan favourites Little Miss Korea (I will certainly miss those dumplings!) but in the new year, there will be a Greek restaurant in its place – stay tuned for that one.

This affected Throb Nightclub because they were tenants but the Meraki Greek Taverna restaurant has since moved back into the building while the National Flag shop has relocated.
