What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Argus Dining Room offers a visually stunning ambiance with its Art Deco design and cozy fireplaces, often praised for its excellent breakfast and special occasion dinners. While many rave about the creative and delicious food, some diners have experienced inconsistencies with mains and found certain dishes to be overly salty or undercooked.
"My husband and I had dinner at the Argus Dining Room on Friday night. We had such a nice time. The ambiance is beautiful, when you walk into the dining room you know you’re in for a special evening. We started with a bottle of the Sangiovese and had the croquet and stracciatella as our starters. For our mains we ordered the market fish, chicken and side of the leaves salad. The food was absolutely delicious. The serving sizes are quite large so do go with a full appetite as every bite is worth eating."

"We paid The Argus a visit and it didn’t disappoint! The ambience of the hotel was lovely. The grounds and gardens were beautiful- a must visit!"

"Beautiful and tastefully decorated place and a great service with not so good food. I ordered the beetroot salad with goat cheese: the combination of beet and roasted walnuts and dressing was lovely but there was about maybe half a teaspoon goat cheese on it. Then I had the baby octopus dish which was so salty that I couldn’t swallow the first bite. I notified the waiter and he immediately suggested to replace it with something else and I picked the pasta; it wasn’t as bad as the previous dish but it was undercooked.
Dessert was fine. I do not recommend this place unless someone tells me they’ve got a new chef with good taste for food."

Food, spas and volcanic nirvana just 1 hour from Melbourne
Across town at the Argus Dining Room in Hepburn Springs, I feel the love of the land in meals that come with fruit and vegetables delivered from co-owners Wayne Cross and Chris Malden’s very own farm garden. While at Mercato Restaurant, near downtown Daylesford, I spend an entire afternoon gorging on a four-course lunch of local meats and herbs in a restored 1864 homestead.
