What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Gage Roads Freo Brewery is lauded for its lively atmosphere, stunning harbour views, and impressive selection of fresh, tank-to-tap beers. Many visitors praise the spacious, converted cargo shed setting and family-friendly amenities, while the food, particularly pizzas and seafood, receives positive mentions. However, some diners have found the food to be too spicy and noted issues with table availability due to the no-booking policy.
"We had lunch at this Freo Brewery. Good food, not a massive lunch menu but nevertheless still difficult to choose because it all looked yummy. We opted for a spicy chicken taco with chips from the share menu. Friendly and efficient staff. We will come back to try the pizza because the massive pizza oven made my mouth water.đ"

"Gage Roads Brewery in Fremantle is a lively, spacious, and well-run venue that ticks a lot of the right boxes. Itâs busy, noisy, and full of energy â particularly on weekends â but it manages to maintain a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere despite the crowds. The space itself is massive (Iâd estimate over 300 seats), with plenty of room both indoors and outdoors, making it feel social and open rather than cramped.
The food was a real highlight. It arrived quickly, was of good quality, and reasonably priced â none of that over-the-top "brewpub" pricing. I particularly liked how clearly the menu was laid out: straightforward descriptions, no pretentiousness, and you know exactly what youâre getting. Itâs casual, no-nonsense food done well, and ideal for groups with varied tastes. If we were locals, I could easily see us coming here more often.
I had the beef, and it was absolutely amazing. Nicely spiced and cooked to perfection, I ordered it on the rare side of medium, and it was spot on â juicy, tender, and full of flavour. Itâs always impressive when a large venue can deliver such quality, especially at lunchtime when things are busy.
Although I donât drink, others in our group were pleased with the beer selection, which is clearly one of the main attractions. Thereâs also a large kidsâ play area nearby, which is a great bonus for families who want a meal without the stress of keeping children entertained.
Ordering is done via the app or at the bar, as thereâs no table service. The app is fine for most orders, but it doesnât allow for customising meals (e.g., removing ingredients from pizzas), so if you need changes, itâs best to order at the bar â which we did without any problems.
One thing to note: you canât book tables. Itâs first-come, first-served, and it can get busy. We were lucky to find space for our large group on a Sunday, but I wouldnât count on that every time. That said, the size of the place means thereâs a good turnover, so with a bit of patience, youâll generally find a spot.
Overall, Gage Roads offers solid food, a great atmosphere, and a friendly vibe. Itâs family-friendly, group-friendly, and doesnât try to be anything itâs not. Definitely worth a visit, and if we were local, weâd be back often."

"A very vibrant eatery. We went on Sunday lunchtime, the place was busy but was still able to get a seat at the outdoor area. Food is ordered and paid via QR code menu, drinks are self-ordered at the bar. Food was ok, the atmosphere and views of the harbour were the USPs."

The Best Of Beer 2022: WA
Entered here with zero consultation with others, and as a beer that in other formats has been around for years, I present Gage Roads' nitro'd take on their totally unfashionable Sleeping Giant English IPA that you can find on tap at their Freo home. It continues to slake as a softly-carbonated memory., with Gage Freoâs head brewer Simone Clementsâ nitro treatment revealing this slumbering core range beer as a luscious, pintable, portside attendant. Nitro-crema âtaches optional.
