Despite the new outdoor seating, the best spot at this modern Australian eatery is at the counter, where you can sit, eat and watch the chefs as they instinctively reach across to salt each others' dishes, turn thick medallions of beef on the smoky grill and patiently shape arancini into perfect golden spheres. The food here is meant for progressive sharing, from the fat discs of seared scallops doused in seaweed butter to the signature lamb shoulder roasted in sheep's milk yoghurt. The specials are always worth a look and the chefs are happy to go off-piste for those with dietary requirements.

Located on glittering Oracle Boulevard, Social Eating House is definitely not somewhere to go for a quick bite, for the simple reason you would not be doing it justice. Social Eating House underwent some major renovations in 2021 and has a luxe refreshed look, complete with an upgraded kitchen and bar, new intimate fine dining space and jaw-dropping interior details. Hands down, this one of the absolute best restaurants on the Gold Coast—the unassuming and unpretentious two chef-hatted bistro sets a culinary bar that other restaurants can only aspire to.

Spread across two city blocks, Oracle’s dual high-rise towers (one at 50 storeys, the other 40) loom like sculptured spinnakers above several top Broadbeach dining options (Social Eating House, No Name Lane, Ten Japanese Restaurant among them). Peppers Broadbeach occupies both towers with about 200 urban-styled apartments. All the usual five-star, 24-hour service features apply, but there are also welcome touches of quirkiness and character: a third-floor Zen garden, pillow menu, pantry deliveries, free in-house iPads and WiFi plus a mini cinema.

Tapas and drinks served up in a casual sophisticated venue where a glass charcuterie cabinet displaying cured meats from Italy, Spain and Australia takes centre stage. The 1kg lamb shoulder platter is made to share while cocktail hits include the dessert cocktail version of the Amaretto Sour, a mix of lemon, almond spirits and bitters, all double strained and topped with sugar that is caramelised under a brulee gun.

Located in Broadbeach, Social Eating House focuses on modern Australian cuisine with a shared-plates concept. We had the burrata with figs, sashimi of the day, tempura bugs with Malay curry, and slow-cooked lamb—all incredible. The wine selection is fantastic, and the atmosphere is stylish but unpretentious.

UPDATE: We’ve eaten several times at Social, including with vegans, gluten and lactose intolerants all at the same table!. On every occasion our needs were gracefully accommodated, with Matt’s food surpassing our expectations. We give Social our highest recommendation for both food and service.

The Social Bar & Eating House – Again, one of my favourite places to eat on the Gold Coast. This restaurant is all about share plates, so it’s best to visit with large group of people and order up. We can’t go past the Slow Cooked grass-fed lamb (I’m salivating just talking about it).
