If you are missing the sight of the yellow cow that used to greet you at Udder Delights in Hahndorf, don’t despair!. The cow and the amazing cheeses are now just down the road at Grünthal Brew, along with great food, craft beer, wine, gin that can all be enjoyed in this family-friendly venue. We visited on a wet day and were delighted to find a fireplace doing a great job of keeping the space warm and cosy, surrounded by couches.

Dishing up delicious pizzas and modern Australian fare, pulling up a chair inside or by the banks of the Onkaparinga River will take you straight to craft beer utopia.

The owners of Grünthal Brew, Sheree and Saul Sullivan, are no strangers to the Handorf area, as they also own the Udder Delights cheese company on the main street. As such, you’ll find cheese in multiple courses on the menu, on offer at the in-house shop or even waiting to be made by you at one of their classes. But back to the beer…

Grunthal Brew is the perfect venue that has it all, and the kids are not going to want to leave. The Grünthal Brewery just outside of Hahndorf is a great spot to stop for a local beer. The watermelon sour is absolutely delightful and you really can’t beat being outside in the sunshine. There is a huge range of beers to choose from as well as 3 gins which can be enjoyed as a tasting flight.

Grünthal Brew is in Verdun in the Adelaide Hills, just off the Hahndorf exit roundabout. It is located at the former Grumpy’s Brewhaus, which was fire ravaged. The new owners rebuilt and have made it into a warm, comfortable and inviting restaurant and microbrewery.

The class costs $190 per head and is run in the Greenhouse of Udder Delights Cheese Cellar’s new home Grunthal Brew where you can kick on afterwards with a wine, beer and gin tasting.
