Reviews Summary

Honey Badger Dessert Cafe is lauded for its creative and delicious desserts, with panookies and unique offerings like the black sesame latte earning high praise. Reviewers highlight the generous portions, attractive presentation, and friendly service in a cozy setting. While some find the prices a bit high, the quality and taste generally justify the cost.

"We tried the Nutella puff and it was delicious 😋 I loved that they were generous with the bananas, and the presentation was really well done. It’s a popular place, and the beautiful interior decor made it feel warm and inviting."

Michelle

"Honey Badger Dessert Café is the sort of place you wander into for “just one quick sweet” and end up staying until you scrape the last caramel bead from the plate. Tucked into Salamanca Square, the room mixes polished timber with pops of pastel, and the smell of warm sugar drifts out to the courtyard even before you reach the door.

The menu is built for people who treat dessert as a proper meal. We shared a Kyoto Holiday pancake stack loaded with matcha cream and fairy-floss wisps, followed by the Blonde Panookie, a skillet cookie that arrives still sizzling under a scoop of vanilla ice-cream. The banoffee skillet was a close second favourite, thick with fresh banana and ribbons of toffee. To drink, the lychee-rose popping soda bursts like childhood in a glass and makes a neat palate reset between all that richness.

Staff strike the right balance between friendly and efficient. Orders land quickly, water is topped up without prompting, and samples of house-made fudge appear the moment you look curious. Prices hover around the mid-teens for most desserts, which feels fair given the portion size and the obvious care in presentation. Extra points for staying open late; it is one of the few spots in Hobart where you can wind up the evening with something sweet and a good coffee."

"It’s a simple space but absolutely delicious dessert. We went around 3pm for a dessert break and it was not crowded. Had the chocolate waffle and deconstructed banoffee. Both were decadent and might be a little heavy for mid afternoon. The black sesame latte (iced) is also a good try!"

The Coolest Places to Eat and Drink in Hobart

Ok, so maybe I would have been able to try more new places if I didn’t always insist on visiting Honey Badger at least once whenever I’m in Tasmania, but it is the cutest and most delicious little café!. While they also have savoury breakfast dishes Honey Badger is most known as a dessert café as their sweet treats are incredible!. The waffles and pancakes are great, but I usually get a ‘panookie’ (pictured above) which is a delicious cookie served in a tiny pan with lots of mouth-watering toppings.

The Best Batter in Hobart

Dessert specialist Honey Badger is a big believer in choice. They bravely broach the sweet/savoury divide by serving pancakes with eggs, bacon and whipped feta cheese (and finish it with spiced pumpkin butter, maple syrup, toasted walnuts and roasted cherry tomatoes) as well as with fresh cream, seasonal fruit, berry coulis, vanilla bean ice-cream and maple syrup. As for the three types of waffles – that’s another story (hint: one variety features Tim Tam crumbs).
