Reviews Summary
Di Stasio Citta is lauded for its impeccable Italian cuisine and vibrant, art-gallery-like atmosphere, complemented by professional and engaging service. While many praise the food's authentic flavors and presentation, some find the portion sizes small for the price. The restaurant's sophisticated ambiance and Roman-style aperitivo hour are also highlights, though occasional service issues and the unique visual projections have been noted.
"It was a fantastic experience! The atmosphere is vibrant and welcoming, perfect for both casual outings and special occasions. Everything we ordered was super delicious, especially their arancini😋 The staff were friendly and attentive, ensuring we had everything we needed.
I can’t wait to come back and try more dishes!"

"Really cool place. Visual sensory engaged with projectors playing different video clips. High ceiling. Concrete everywhere. Really has a museum vibe.
We ordered scallops and ricotta dumplings for entrees, beef with polenta and crab pasta for the main. The entrees are nice. Then it comes the main.
First of all, the pasta was really plain, only the crab tasted good however tiny tiny amount. Secondly, the beef my friend ordered was served and replaced by chicken without informing us or even offering alternatives before head because it’s suddenly sold out(…?) Shocked that this unprofessional behaviour can happen in a 2 hats restaurant. Lastly, dessert. Tiny. The waiter gave us attitude when we didn’t leave a tip at the end. How? Do you expect something back when you didn’t deliver?
Overall food doesn’t achieve 2 hats restaurant especially with overcharged prices. More importantly, service was clearly not living up to the standards and expectations a 2 hat restaurant would have.
FYI, if you are looking for a truly great Italian restaurant, go to Tipo 00."

"The food I was served was absolutely impeccable at Di Stasio tonight.
The arancini balls were sublime, nice and warm but not too hot, as they often tend to be. The focaccia was delicious, the waitress very cleverly had it served alongside the soft, pillowy ricotta & spinach gnudi so I could sop up the burnt butter sauce. I wasn’t a huge fan of the cream served with the focaccia, it was far too rich but the butter sauce was amazing so I didn’t mind at all. The main meal, pasta bolognaise, was delicious and the ZABAGLIONE CUSTARD was quite simply incredible.
My only issue with my visit to this innovative and conceptual restaurant was the pricing. The entree serve size of the pasta was $43, and while I was not left hungry afterwards at all I do feel the pricing for this and the gnudi was a bit crazy given how little was served.
Beyond this, a delicious dinner and I look forward to visiting again!
PS Thank you to the lovely lady who was my waitress, you gave some excellent recommendations :)"

The best pasta in Melbourne
Città sees Ronnie Di Stasio return to the neighbourhood where he pioneered Rosati in the heady days shortly before the fringe benefits tax and the stock market crash cruelled the excesses of the 1980s. The linguini Capri (ebulliently listed with “pawns, parsley, lemon and sunshine”) is enjoying poll position on Instagram, but capellini – angel hair by another name – with loads of garlic and briny-sweet chunks of crab meat in its white wine-driven sauce, is nipping at its heels.
The 24 best restaurants in Melbourne
Ronnie di Stasio may well have invented the Instagram hashtag ‘Italianality’ along with embodying the concept at his St. Kilda institution, Cafe di Stasio. His Spring Street all day dining space gives it a city airing and then some. Forget the soulful Italian south – this place could out glam Milan.
10 of our favourite Melbourne Italian restaurants
The sequel to Ronnie Di Stasio's spaghetti-slinging, barolo-pouring St Kilda landmark has landed, and true to the nature of its art-loving provocateur owner, it's going to push buttons you didn't know you had. The raging red of its puffy chairs and rosary necklaces on smocked waitresses, plus the constant motion of video artworks heat the blood so you suddenly consider dropping crazy money on the biblical wine list. But then comes the soothe: the cool of the marble bar where Di Stasio's classic fluffy, buttery schnitzel sandwich in foil, twirls of lemony crab linguine, plush veal napped in silken tonnato sauce meet new essentials.
Best Italian restaurants in Melbourne
A modern Italian renaissance can be found on Spring Street where Rinaldo Di Stasio’s city outpost combines avant-garde art installations with the time-honoured rituals of aperitivo hour. Grab a seat along the marble bar for a negroni and salty snacks, like the fried anchovies and sage leaves encased in a frill of batter, chicken liver crostini or the best-in-show arancini. The temptation to kick on into the bigger fare is extreme, thanks to the classically minded excellence of saffron-stained Milanese risotto, veal saltimbocca and hot zabaglione with marsala custard.

The quality ingredients used – durum wheat flour specially milled in Tamworth, house-made jersey milk fior di latte – mean it’s definitely on the pricey side, but that lobster pizza alone is worth it.
