What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Hazel offers a sophisticated dining experience with standout dishes like the lobster roll and wood-fired sourdough, praised for its elegant ambiance and attentive service. However, some diners noted issues with high noise levels and found certain main courses to be inconsistent in flavor and price, with some dishes being overly salty.
"We hosted our wedding at Hazel last November and had a truly memorable night. The Atrium and Grande Hall are such unique spaces in itself, and created a truly special atmosphere for our guests. It was a smooth planning experience with Wenona, and also Giuseppe, who were very accommodating with special requests and dietary changes to ensure the coeliac groom could enjoy the night. We also received plenty of compliments from guests in terms of the delicious food, drinks and attentive service from the team of wait staff. Thank you, and hope to be back soon. With love, D + A"

"Went here recently with a group of friends for dinner. First time here, the fit-out and decor feels like fine dining. There are two large floors (toilets are upstairs), it was surprisingly large.
Our waiter was exceptional: great with recommending hope and what to order, and wine recommendations. Very attentive.
The entrees were all excellent. The bread in particular was enough to tempt anyone avoiding carbs to go back for seconds.
The steak was "fine", nothing bad about it, but you can definitely get better elsewhere. Same with the lamb chop, but the lamb rissoles were excellent.
The roast potatoes and the fries were great, as were the rest of the sides.
We shared a lemon sorbet (lovely and tart), and the goat cheese panna cotta, which I would definitely go back for.
All in all we really enjoyed the whole experience. Would be ideal for a group event."

"This place is great, fantastic food and exceptional service. All the food I tried was excellent, but the charcoal chicken is a definite stand out. Due to my extreme hunger I forgot to take a photo of the beef ham and the sourdough, but be assured they both looked and tasted fantastic. Great restaurant, 10 out of 10"

Last year, The Mulberry Group (founders and past owners of The Kettle Black, Top Paddock and Higher Ground) gifted Melbourne with two new venues inside the historic T&G Building at 164 Flinders Lane: Hazel, and late-night basement bar Dessous. The building itself was built in 1928 and served as the office of Melbourne insurance firm Temperance & General, and is one of Melbourne’s best examples of renaissance revival architecture. Inside, the light-filled space has been transformed by award-winning interior design firm The Stella Collective with a mix of gentle curves, natural linens and polished floors.

Sink your teeth into their speciality house-made sourdough toast, topped with anchovy and kefir butter, house-made fresh cheese, fried nduja and guindillas (a type of chilli) or grass-fed beef rump tartare with creamy anchovy sauce.
