Lagotto is delightfully handsome, designed by Flack Studios and boasting a rich burgundy terrazzo with marble inlays. Sunlight bounces off the restaurant’s timber and peachy pink walls, and the vintage Italian aesthetics evoke an old-timey cinematic glamour. There are countless restaurants in Melbourne where you can enjoy exceptional takes on classic Italian recipes, but where Lagotto stands out is in its playfulness.

Lagotto in Fitzroy North brings the spirit of European hospitality to Melbourne’s inner north, offering a contemporary take on classic Italian food. Under the creative direction of Italian-born Head Chef Matteo Fulchiati, Lagotto combines tradition with modern flair, highlighting fresh ingredients and bold flavours. From crisp kingfish crudo with raspberry and finger lime to indulgent green paccheri pasta with Wagyu short rib ragu, every dish is an invitation to indulge.

Lagotto’s handmade pasta dishes are twisted just a little – squid-ink spaghettini, perhaps, tangled with spanner crab and sea urchin roe, or deeply satisfying carbonara given interest with white asparagus. This is Italian, yes, but like the stunning focaccia with molasses glaze and brown butter, layered well beyond your local. A combination of dates, mates and families bring bustle to a room filled with marble and terrazzo.

Lagotto is one of our favourite Italian restaurants in Melbourne. Inspired by European conviviality and a spirit of neighbourly connection, it offers a vibrant and modern take on Italian dining. The seasonal menu blends classic and contemporary flavours and techniques, expertly crafted by Italian-born Head Chef Matteo Fulchiati.

Another popular restaurant in a beautifully styled building is Lagotto, which makes for a lovely weekend brunch spot. The food here is also delicious and will have you coming back for more!. While you are here you should try their eggs with pork and fennel sausage, avocado, crispy pancetta, yogurt pannacotta and braised greens.

The Lagotto's Italian-inspired menu is worth trekking downtown on a Saturday morning for. You'll want to come here every day for breakfast because the food is that good. A hearty breakfast of baked ham, turkey sausage, bacon, and eggs with avocado and braised greens is only a taste of what Lagotto has to offer.

Opposite the San Remo Ballroom, a nostalgic Italian institution in its own right, Lagotto brings a fresh take on classic Italian flavours. Head over on Sunday for their ‘Pasta with Friends’ – a set menu where pasta is the star and the vibe is warm and friendly. Don't skip out on the focaccia.

There’s a great range of pastas here, and most come in under the $20 mark. We’ll be going straight for the orecchiette loaded with greens and chilli. So far this lockdown, Lagotto's takeaway is a Saturday-only affair.
