Reviews Summary

Society offers a luxurious dining experience with stunning ambiance and attentive service, making it a popular choice for special occasions. While many praise the quality of the food, particularly steaks and desserts, some reviews note that dishes can be decent rather than mind-blowing. A few diners experienced issues with food flavor and service attitude, though these seem to be exceptions to the generally positive feedback.

"I had a very good experience dining at Society. I have chosen the chef menu (for 2 people) and it was a great option. Most of the plates were quite small, but the seconds (meat, chicken, and fries with salad) were good quantities. The quality of the food was great and fresh. What I loved the most was the very tender stake and the delicious dessert with Gianduia.
The service has been great and all the staff has been very kind. The location is elegant and fine.
I would recommend it to celebrate a special occasion and enjoy great food and a fine experience!"

Lodovico Mola

"Society on Collins Street is the kind of place that makes a lasting impression from the moment you step in. Every detail - from the elegant interiors to the seamless service - is perfectly curated to offer a luxurious yet inviting dining experience.

The drinks menu deserves its own spotlight. Their cocktails are beautifully crafted, balancing bold flavours with refined presentation. Whether you're into something fresh and citrusy or rich and spirit-forward, there’s something that suits every palate. The wine list is equally impressive, boasting a diverse and thoughtful collection that complements the menu beautifully.

We started with fresh oysters — briny, cold, and absolutely perfect. The bread they served was out of this world: warm, fluffy on the inside with the perfect crust. It came with butter that made it almost impossible to stop at one piece. The salad was vibrant, fresh, and full of flavour - a refreshing contrast to the richness of the other dishes.

Everything at Society felt elevated but never overdone. The staff were warm, knowledgeable, and ensured everything flowed smoothly from start to finish. Whether you're there for a special celebration or just a memorable night out, Society delivers an experience that feels truly special."

"We recently visited this restaurant and were pleased! I would especially like to note the service - the staff is very attentive, friendly and responsive. We were greeted with a smile, quickly helped to choose dishes, and the waiter showed sincere concern for us to feel comfortable. The atmosphere is cozy, you can feel the attention to the guests, which immediately sets the tone for a pleasant evening.

The food is delicious, the serving is neat, but I would not say that the dishes were amazing - just high-quality and decent. Nevertheless, the top-notch service makes the visit very pleasant, and you want to come back again.

I recommend it to those who appreciate a cozy atmosphere and excellent service!"

Accessorised with a top-end city location at the so-schmancy-it-hurts 80 Collins development, Chris Lucas’ new darling is a bold assertion for the ye olde verities of occasion dining. There’s a chance diners of a certain age will be reminded of Rockpool in its heyday.

Executive chef Luke Headon serves his own spin on first-class fare. Society is where you can try things that may otherwise be out of reach – sip Pol Roger or Montrachet by the glass, try $55 caviar martinis made with nori butter washed vodka or take your pick from an impressive cellar boasting back vintages of Romanee-Conti and 1945 Chateau d’Yquem Sauternes that’ll have you remortgaging the house. That wow factor extends to the food, namely the silky bluefin tuna lapping in a brilliant egg yolk emulsion with immense depth of flavour and that mind-bending textural celeriac and nashi pear dish.

Melbourne's Michelin Star-Worthy Restaurants

When it comes to dramatic luxury, Society, a space from Chin Chin’s Chris Lucas, takes art deco and combines it with brutalist mid-century across two restaurants. The Society Dining Room/Lounge Bar and Lillian Terrace offer some interesting dishes that feature mish-mashes of flavours like the Japanese pickle and wasabi butter. Lillian Terrace draws its flavour influences from Europe with the stand-out, a dessert, stealing the show; the Napoleon mille-feuille is worth the trip alone.

Restaurants and Cafés - Entry - eMelbourne

Allan Wynn - son of Samuel Wynn, who established the Florentino - wrote in The fortunes of Samuel Wynn (1968), a biography of his father, that café society in Melbourne revolved around five establishments: Molina's, Café Latin, the Society, Café Florentino and Mario's. Such were the licensing laws that most of them started as wine shops and the restaurants were added. Mario's, however, grew out of a hotel dining room (which meant it was also licensed to sell beer).
