Reviews Summary
Stokehouse St Kilda offers stunning seafront views and attentive service, making it a popular choice for special occasions. While many rave about the elegant ambiance and creative dishes, some diners find the portion sizes small and the prices high for the perceived value, with occasional critiques on specific dishes not meeting expectations.
"I came here as a table for one and had the best experience! The service was outstanding and the food was delicious. I arrived a few min early so they let me sit on the patio and enjoy a glass of wine. They did team service and every member of the team was outstanding. The tuna bite and potato cake were two of my best bites I’ve had in Melbourne! The chef also brought out a side dish for me to try. I will definitely be back!"

"We had an exceptional dining experience at Stokehouse in St Kilda. The fine dining menu was elegantly curated—each dish delicately balanced in flavour and beautifully presented. While portion sizes leaned towards the refined, the quality and composition more than made up for it.
Our server, Meg, was outstanding—her recommendations were spot on and added to the overall experience. The ambience was truly 5-star, offering a sophisticated yet relaxed atmosphere that made for a perfect setting.
It is on the pricier side, but absolutely worth it for a special occasion. We hosted a business partner visiting from overseas, and it proved to be an impressive and memorable choice. Highly recommended."

Best fine dining restaurants in Melbourne
When Stokehouse burnt to the ground in 2014 it made headlines around the country. Now, not only is Stokehouse the first Australian restaurant to achieve a five-star Green Star rating for its design, but such policies as hiring staff who can walk, ride or catch public transport to work show a commitment to sustainability. Seafood is a renewed focus under executive chef Jason Staudt and the $55-a-head seafood platter is worth the splurge, a showcase of Australia’s best with Queensland prawns, delicate WA marron and smoked Murray cod belly.
Melbourne Places To Eat
The St Kilda seaside dining institution, Stokehouse which opened back in the 80s has long stood as one of the best restaurants in Melbourne, and still does in 2023. Resting right on the foreshore, the floor-to-ceiling windows provide vistas of Port Phillip Bay, the inside is a light-filled space with pale-timber flooring and ceiling contrasting against white-clothed dining tables and chairs. Dining here plays on its coastal aesthetic with a Modern Australian menu laden with fish and seafood as well as top-grade cuts and local produce.
Where To Find The Best Restaurants & Cafes In St Kilda?
After being completely repaired, revitalised, and restored following the fire that had left a blackened stain on the foreshore for almost three years, Stokehouse revived its doors to let in some fresh St Kilda air. So, with a slightly reduced menu and a work-in-progress vibe, it's safe to say Stokehouse is not the Stokehouse of the future. For one thing, it'll have a raw bar, albeit in its current unfinished state, it's open to walk-ins who gleefully down absurdly pink drinks on a new balcony overlooking the ocean.
A Romantic 24 Hours in St Kilda
Sadly a week earlier we had been unable to secure a booking at the more intimate and sophisticated Stokehouse Restaurant, and so we headed to the Beach Bar and Grill ground floor Café. Our very helpful waitress managed to find us a relatively quiet corner and we tried valiantly to ignore the noise of other patrons, particularly the children. Someone, somewhere needs to pass a law prohibiting children being allowed into restaurants when couples are having a rare 24 hours away from their own offspring.
