What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
High Valley Cheese Co is highly praised for its delicious and unique artisanal cheeses, especially their award-winning marinated fettas and creamy bries. Reviewers consistently highlight the friendly and knowledgeable staff who provide excellent tasting experiences. While it's a small storefront, the quality and variety of cheeses make it a must-visit for cheese lovers.
"A lovely little spot to taste some wonderful cheeses. It's just a small store front, but with air conditioning which was a godsend given the heat today. Our host went through each of the cheeses on offer, allowing you to taste as you go. She was very friendly and helpful. My highlights were the sundried tomato feta, and the pesto feta. The triple cream brie was so creamy, but the rouge was a big surprise, delightfully creamy but with a gorgeous nuttiness. They have a selection of salami from a local farm which was a nice touch, and some crackers and quince paste to make a great cheese platter. Next stop is a bakery to have these excellent cheeses with some sourdough and gain 10kg."

"You just have to swing by here, if you like cheese. They put some nice twists to their cheese and they're all delicious. We really liked their chilli feta, smoked cheddar and the colly blue cheese. Then again, their triple brie Stefan blue was also memorable. It's all so good, you just have to come and buy"

"The other eating option at The Cellar by Gilbert is the High Valley Cheese Co. tasting room. It’s a free, progressive tasting through a range of soft and hard cheeses that are made in Mudgee using milk from suppliers like the Little Big Dairy Co, a family run dairy in Dubbo. You start off with creamy Persian-style feta ($14/300g) that they do plain or flavoured with olive, tomato, pesto or chilli. We purchased plain to eat on Althea by Zin sourdough with semi-dried tomatoes we grew ourself.
You move onto Brie, washed rind (Rouge) and a very gentle farmhouse cheddar (Caerphilly) that’d be a good, non-oily melter. You end on a pair of blue cheeses: a gentle eating cheese (Stefan Blue) and a pungent cooking cheese (Colly Blue) that’d be at home on top of a steak. We purchased the stronger blue and a wedge of the washed rind and used them on a cheese platter but I reckon I’ll be following my own advice and cooking with the rest of the blue."
